Serving over 104,000 students, Polk County is the seventh largest district in Florida and the thirtieth largest in the United States. In an effort to provide a high quality education for all students, learning is brought to life through a variety of instructional strategies and learning opportunities. In this section of the guide, you will learn about the opportunities Polk Academies offers students in search of a career path. It is important that students connect what they are learning in the classroom to jobs that might interest them. FOCUS WHAT IS A CAREER ACADEMY? Career academies combine an academic curriculum with an occupational theme. AREAS Students who join career academies are part of a small learning environment and share common interest in a specific career field. Students are provided with hands-onlearning opportunities by experienced instructors. Local business and community leaders have the distinct opportunity to partner with career ARTS & academies. Students learn directly from the professionals in their chosen field COMMUNICATIONS to gain on-the-job training and obtain industry certification. Through these partnerships, students gaina competitive advantage as they begin their journey toward attending college or directly entering the workforce.
