Personally as long as my games can run just like it did on my Pro, its good enough. Games with dynamic res / unlocked frame rate will likely be able to see improvements on the PS5. Games that are fixed res / locked frame rate are likely to run exactly the way it is on the PS4 / PS4Pro. Maybe loading will be faster but thats it. Unless the devs release a patch for it. Just because its a PS5 doesn't mean the PS4 game will magically run at 4k/120fps. Come on. Yup this is the proper expectations. Unless developers either go back and patch in extra features or something. That said. If you owned a Pro or slapped an SSD into your PS4's then expect the best case scenario or better from PS5. Spinluck. So everyone who wasn't flipping their shit after the Cerny presentation was right. McFly. Gitaroo. What I find interesting is that HDR will be on by default for PS5 and has to be turned off for some games. My hope for some sort of HDR solution for games that don't have it went up from 0.1% to 1% (sony pls!). Honestly one of the main reasons I have the XSX preordered is the Auto HDR feature. I hope they detail the boost mode soon. cantbebothered. litebrite. SOLDIER. One Winged Slayer. I am praying with all of my being that Monster Hunter World will load as quickly as it does on the Series X via the videos we’ve seen. If a game has unlocked FPS or dynamic resolution, they're more likely to benefit. If a game dips in FPS on PS4/Pro, they shouldn't on PS5 because of the boost. Other games will get patches/PS5 upgrades to add next-gen features. RivalGT. cantbebothered. i think what the user meant to say is someone needs to work on it. it doesnt magically improves if its lock. edit:nvm he clarify. McFly. Miniature Kaiju. Yeah, true. If they weren't running at those caps they're getting boosted. But they're not going to get boosted past that. I'm honestly not sure. People keep saying the Xbox bruteforces fps and resolution, but lots of games break when you bruteforce it to run at 60fps in stead of 30, so I don't think that's true. Most, if not all BC games that were previewed on Series X (FFXV, MH: World etc) all have performance modes which caps the framerate at 60 vs 30 on base Xbox One (S). I don't think we've seen a game that's locked at 30fps perform at 60fps on Series X, but I'm not sure. MS has boosted 360 games on Xbox One before, but they had to do that on a game to game basis, and that takes additional programming work and a dedicated team. Sony might be able to do that for big, successful games, but the question is if that's worth it for them. Lots of modern games already have a performance mode, and games that don't, like Bloodborne for example, often break when you uncap stuff without the help of the developer. SmarmyJerkface. McFly. Before purchasing add-ons to play with your PS4 games on PS5 consoles, please try to boot and play your PS4 games on your PS5 console to see if you are happy with the play experience. It just means make sure the game doesn't crash immediately upon boot or the logic runs too fast for a normal playing experience. Even on the PS2 there was some specific PSX titles that ran with some undesirable behaviors. It was few and far between but the significant majority of games worked without issue. Even the physical BC on the PS3 with its earliest model had the same thing in regards to some PS2 games. There are several thousand PS4 games so they need to account for every potential scenario and they simply just won't know if a game will or will not have some sort of issue that could potentially crop up when only playing on PS5 that doesn't happen when playing on a PS4. See, I always thought this new "Boost Mode" was more akin to "Xbox One X Enhanced" in which resolution was actually increased or new visual effects added to existing games, not just an increase of resources for game with dynamic resolutions and unlocked framerates like the way OG Xbox games would natively render in 4K. I'm good with games getting at least a framerate bump where possible though. I do hope the BC loading speeds are on par with Xbox gains. EDIT: The blog post cleared this up! YES Now, just want confirmation that plugging in a PS4 external drive works seamlessly on PS5. I'm not looking forward to downloading 7TB worth of games. Bobbyleejones. So the main reason saves are not transferring are developers ? (this is such a weird situation) deejayone.
