Feeder Cresson and Feeder Edmond flow almost along two thirds of the site before joining to form Riviere Gros Ruisseau. Feeder Augustin which starts half way in the East of the site flows South –easterly to join Riviere Gros Ruisseau just before the latter flows outside the site at its South eastern boundary with St Aubin Sugar Estate. Two tributaries, Feeder Rivet and an unnamed Feeder flow along about a quarter of the site before joining to form Riviere Ruisseau Marron which winds down and out of the site with three to four loops flowing inside and out along the Eastern edge of the site. Feeder Enterrement starts in the middle of the last southern quarter of the site and flows more or less straight out of its eastern boundary with St Aubin Sugar Estate. The escarpments of the feeders and the Rivers vary from smooth slopes, steep slopes to almost vertical slopes and the vegetation consists predominantly of almost the same type of introduced species but with Ravenale ( Ravenala madacascariensis ) as the most dominant species, (see Fig. -

Therefore, the current study was designed and carried out during the past decade. A list of LFPs for 207 butterfly species (Super family Papilionoidea) of Sri Lanka is presented based on local studies and includes 785 plant-butterfly combinations and 480 plant species. Many of these combinations are reported for the first time in Sri Lanka. The impact of introducing new plants on the dynamics of abundance and distribution of butterflies, the possibility of butterflies being pests on crops, and observations of LFPs of rare butterfly species, are discussed. This information is crucial for the conservation management of the butterfly fauna in Sri Lanka. Key words: conservation, crops, larval food plants (LFPs), pests, plant-butterfly combination. The forest type was divided into homogenous vegetation strata (HVS) based on the altitude, temperature, precipitation and forest types. A total of 8 ha area was sampled using 0.1 ha (20m 50m) plot and all tree species ≥ 1cm girth at breast height (gbh) within the plot were enumerated. In all, 4614 individuals were recorded that belonged to 122 species representing 90 genera and 39 families. Fabaceae, Euphorbiaceae, Rubiaceae, and Combretaceae were the species-rich families. The mean stand density of STR was 577 ha-1, but it varied from 180 ha-1 to 779 ha-1. Similarly, the mean basal area of the STR was 14.51 m2ha-1 which ranged between 8.41 m2 ha-1 and 26.96 m2 ha-1. The stem count was low at the lowest girth class (1-10 cm gbh) and high at 20-30 cm gbh in all the forest types. Anogeissus latifolia was the dominant species in the semi- evergreen and deciduous forest types while Chloroxylon swietenia was dominant in the thorn forest. -

This listing emphasizes temperate families of the Northern Hemisphere and is meant as an overview with examples of Oregon native plants. It includes many exotic genera that are grown in Oregon as ornamentals plus other plants of interest worldwide. The genera that are Oregon natives are printed in a blue font. Genera that are exotics are shown in black, however genera in blue may also contain non-native species. Names separated by a slash are alternatives or else the nomenclature is in flux. When several genera have the same common name, the names are separated by commas. The order of the family names is from the linear listing of families in the APG III report. A planta “Espinho-de-cigano” (Acanthospermum hispidum DC) é amplamente usada no nordeste do Brasil como medicamento popular para a asma. Embora muito pouco seja conhecido atualmente sobre a efi cácia e segurança deste extrato vegetal, é possível encontrar numerosos medicamentos preparados com ele nos serviços públicos ou em lojas que vendem produtos naturais. Este estudo visa proceder a uma revisão de literatura relativa à A. hispidum, no período entre 1926- 2006, nas áreas de etnobotânica, fi toquímica e farmacologia. O objetivo foi contribuir para um melhor conhecimento desta espécie e seus usos, assim como auxiliar na melhora de seu desempenho como um medicamento natural. A espécie é facilmente identifi cável e cresce abundantemente durante a estação chuvosa no nordeste do Brasil; é possível cultivá-la sem perda de seu perfi l fi toquímico e os estudos toxicológicos têm mostrado sua segurança como um medicamento (embora mais estudos sejam requeridos nestes aspectos). -

Smithsonian Contri- butions to Botany, number 52, 28 pages, 3 tables, 1981.-Chromosome reports are provided for 145 populations, including first reports for 33 species and three genera, Garcilassa, Riencourtia, and Helianthopsis. Chromosome numbers are arranged according to Robinson’s recently broadened concept of the Heliantheae, with citations for 212 of the ca. 265 genera and 32 of the 35 subtribes. Diverse elements, including the Ambrosieae, typical Heliantheae, most Helenieae, the Tegeteae, and genera such as Arnica from the Senecioneae, are seen to share a specialized cytological history involving polyploid ancestry. The authors disagree with one another regarding the point at which such polyploidy occurred and on whether subtribes lacking higher numbers, such as the Galinsoginae, share the polyploid ancestry. Numerous examples of aneuploid decrease, secondary polyploidy, and some secondary aneuploid decreases are cited. The Marshalliinae are considered remote from other subtribes and close to the Inuleae. Evidence from related tribes favors an ultimate base of X = 10 for the Heliantheae and at least the subfamily As teroideae. In 1999 the District received a grant from the National Heritage Trust to survey the flora of its remnant vegetation. Much of this is on private property and the District Committee selected thirty three plots of remnant bushland on private farms to be included in flora survey. The present report is based on visits to these thirty three remnants that lie on 14 of the 23 farms in the district. The surveys are intended to provide information about the biodiversity of the various remnants with the aim of establishing the priority for preservation, by fencing, of the remnants and to determine the value of linking some of them by the planting of corridors of vegetation. At each site the local landholder(s) joined the survey and provided invaluable background information about the history of the remnants. The vegetation of this part of the northern wheatbelt is known to be very diverse. The Marchagee Nature Reserve, lying north west of the District, was surveyed between 1975 and 1977 (Dell et al. 1979). The area was covered by Beard in his vegetation mapping project (Beard 1976), and part of the south of the District was covered in a report on Koobabbie Farm in 1990 (Davies 1990). -

FORMATION OF DEVASWOM DEPARTMENT The year 1811 is important in the history of temple administration in Travancore as it was the year in which the state government assumed direct management of 348 major and 1123 minor devaswoms on the initiative of resident dewan, Col. Munro, with the approval of the sovereign, Rani Gowri Lakshmi Bai (1810- 1815). The reasons stated by Col. Munro for assumption of such temples were many and manifold. The sannad written by him on 3rd Kanni 987 M.E (September 1811) was a clear evidence to substantiate the reasons attributed to his act of assumption of temples'. The Circumstances which lead to the formation of the devaswom department originated from the ugly state of administration of temples by the uralars, the temple trustees, that culminated into the take over of such temples by Col. Munro. He also pointed out that the temples were not being thatched or repaired from time to time and they were in a dilapidated condition. -
