RADIO ACTION CONTINUED '4 WYDD, PITTSBURGH, PA M.D.-DAVE SHEDLOCK: "The Cars pulled in at #1 on our request list this week. We believe our edit of the 12" mix of Again' brought the Lp back to life...Madonna caught fire this week as she broke into our top 5, both in sales and phones...Look out for Frankie - the man's for real and drawing phones from all demos...'Wire', the new 12" from U2 is great. It's classic U2 and the streets are already buzzing here with the anticipation of a concert stop next year...If you're looking for something different, check out the new 12" from Shalamar. The record's loaded with hooks." KGB-FM, SAN DIEGO, CA ASST. P.D./M.D.-TED EDWARDS: "BURP!" WGRQ, BUFFALO, NY ASST. P.D.-PAUL HEINE: "Buffalo is Triumph's home-away-from-home and 'Thunder Seven' and Triumph found a home on WGRO. We're starting with the title, 'Follow Your Heart' and the Police-sounding 'Stranger In A Strange Land'. Already #1 requests and huge in retail. C'mon AOR, let's take this and Deep Purple and shove it up CHR's collective ass...Speaking of Deep Purple, the granddaddy of heavy metal is #3 retail and #2 requests. Welcome back...Pat Benatar building in sales, #7 this week. .Hey, Warner Bros., where's the 3-C cover the the Madonna album?...FGTH is building (buildilig what, we're not sure)... Hop on the new Prince single 'I Would Die 4 U' , before your competitor with the jingles and the pukey jocks does...Another one to get on early is 'Too Late For Goodbyes' from Julian Lennon. This will be bigger than 'Valotte'. Chrysalis and Kevin Sutter - a class act gets classier...Top 5 Retail: Prince, Honeydrippers, Deep Purple, Bruce Springsteen, and Duran squared...Top 5 Requests: U2 'Pride', Sammy Hagar '55', Prince, Triumph 'Open', Deep Purple 'Perfect'." KBCO, BOULDER, CO M.D.-DOUG CLIFTON: "KBCO/KADE would like to extend our thanks to everyone in the record community for their support over the years. We're glad so many of you could make it to our open house and help kick off a new phase of development. Thanks to Art Phillips for making the trip to Colorado and joining in the celebration. Very special thanks to Curtis Hawkins, Jeff Gold and Mark Williams...Finally got to meet Sandy Thompson this past week. I know we'll be seeing you again soon for Frankie Goes To Hollywood...Don Henley has put together an album that could have been the next Eagles Lp had they stayed together. The single has been a favorite since its release and now 'Sunset Grill' becomes my new favorite from the album. This album recreates the mood captured on 'Hotel California'... Phones have been picking up for Los Lobos and Frankie Goes To Holl ywood... Crazy 8's and Matthew Wilder are doing quite well as is Bruce Cockburn...Congratualtions to Mad Max on his new position as P.D. at 91X." KTXQ, DALLAS, TX M.D.-BOB ELLIOT: "First off, thanks to all for the baby congrats. Now, how do I get the aroma of dirty Pampers out of my clothes?...Deep Purple continues to blow out windows at retail. 'Perfect Strangers' is one of our top 5 phones, along with the new Triumph 'Time Goes By'...For the metal mongers this week, Metallica. There's already a street buzz on this band... Helmets off to Jeff Cook and Rob Sides for support of the Q102 combat zone kits. Not only did our winners enjoy the Dio/Dokken show, they survivied the muther. No easy feat considering an expected crowd of 7500 turned into a 12,000 strong metal hungry monster...And just in time to work off the fat from T-Day--The Boss." WCCC, HARTFORD, CT P.D.-DAVID GROSSMAN: "Deep Purple is the most requested 18+ record for the second week! Excellent upper demo all day record--even doing well 25+ at #2 most requested...A pleasure to be promoting The Kinks Hartford show. The album will certainly yield lots of tracks. 'Sold Me Out' and 'Massive Reductions' join the single for starters here...Toto's 'Stranger' album sales are up 2-1 over last week... Steve Miller's 'Italian X-rays' is by far one of the best cuts on the album, with good upper demo phones... Krokus 'Our Love' is another one of those songs I classify in my 'three piece suit' metal bag. Palatable for all demographics...On Bowie's 'Tonight', requests have been there since the album was released. With the CHR support, this will be a major multi-format track...Red Rockers 'Blood From A Stone' is mass appeal music from one of the better new groups to have emerged in '84...Henley's 'Sunset Grill' lyrics are a statement of the reality of the times we live in...And the Foreigner single features excellent production, excellent vocals and powerful lyrics that certainly hit home to most upper demo listeners." WPDH, POUGHKEEPSIE, NY M.D.-PAM BROOKS: "Consider it Built, and a Monstrously strong structure here on PDH. Don Henley's got what would have been the perfect-next-Eagles' Lp . We're wild tor 'Building The rerfect Beast', 'Boys Of Summer; and 'Sunset Grill', all in heavy, and I just can't pry this one off my turntable, Wow!, Don! I guarantee there isn't a track you won't like...Any Genesis and/or Phil Collins has always been a strong factor for us in Poughkeepsie, as well as any project Phil has touched. The man with the golden hand has done it again and Philip Bailey is the benefactor. Not that he needs Mr. Collins to help his career, but it can't hurt to have such a super duo together! It sounds golden on-the-air and 'Easy Lover' is for us. A little touch of class for those upper demos...I was anxiously ùwaiting the new Kinks Lp and it was worth it! Ray's back with a vengeance(stoppedvoursobbing,eh Ray?)and 'Word Of Mouth' is on everybody's lips. We especially like the strains of 'Living On A Thin Line', so we're going with that as our second track, for two different sides of the boys...Red Rockers 'Eve Of Destruction' made a lot of folks take notice of an album when there was a whole lot of product out there, but 'Blood From A Stone' should be the song that keeps them alive. No need to squeeze this one, the Rockers give you every drop they can, and it this doesn't make it, nothing can...The 'Rocket Launcher' Bruce Cockburn is looking for you. Play it or take emergency cover. Bruce cuts thru all the shit and shoots from the hip and the phones light UP... In parting, I hope everybody ate their faces out for Thanksgiving!" WDIZ, ORLANDO, FL P.D.-RAD MESSICK: "Let's talk about the classiest record of the year from Don Henley, 'Building The Perfect Beast'. It has all the artistic elements that make a record great. Down at the 'Sunset Grill is my favorite by miles--that guitar synthesizer sounds better than real horns and that line that goes 'what would we do without all those jerks anyway, besides all my friends are here, sounds to me like you can check out but you can never leave'. If the Eagles were still around in 1985, this is what they would sound like...The other current class act, Bryan Adams, maintains Top 5 sales and phones... Surprise reception by the audience to Phil Bailey/Phil Collins as they might be called. 'Easy Lover' will be a CHR s-m-a-s-h, glad to get there first...Triumph has come a long way since 'Play The Game'--'Spellbound' has great metal power but it's still singable...Moves to heavy this week for Giuffria and Deep Purple...In the 'special thanks column', Ed Leffler treats me better than my Mom. Thanks, Ed, for all the hospitality on Sammy's last gig for 1984! Save the Star Spangled Banner' till next year!" WBRU, PROVIDENCE, RI M.D.-AMANDA TEPPER: "WBRU is now the official radio station for the 'Nuclear Family'. First '99 Luftballoons', then 'Rocket Launcher' (currently our top request), then 'Two Tribes', and now 'What I See by Planet P. The moodiness of the entire 'pink' double album may put off your hook-oriented AOR ears at first, but properly dayparted, this tune fits into a rock sound quite well. And once you tell your listeners about the anti-Nuke scene the album is based on, you'll probably get the response we did--Strong and steady interest. People are requesting the 'Tony Carey anti-Nuke song'--and we're playing it!...Anything with Don Henley's voice on it reminds me of my roots in Southern California, and makes me partial to l-o -v -e it, but even so, Don's new album is great. Jim and I came up with six different songs we could play. I can't think of many other albums that are that solid! Since we don't have room for six right now, we're starting with 'All She Wants To Do Is Dance'. Those horns got me hooked. 'You Can't Make Love' will be next...Benatar jumps to #3 sales in Providence, and we're going deeper on her album too, with 'Diamond Field'. The feeling around here is that Pat is getting better with age...Our BRU night with Los Lobos promises to be a hulluva time--not only will it be George Skaubitis' New Year christening concert, but the Del-Lords are opening! The Del's great debut album calls for an add.
