BROPHY, F. SOWMAN, J. HUSSEY Auditors R. A. BROPHY & CO. MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT As we start off the new season 2014/2015, I take this opportunity to wish all our supporters and each of our clubs and schools a very enjoyable and successful season. We have recently completed a very successful season for Leinster teams and for the Leinster clubs in national competitions. We have also witnessed in the last few weeks our women in blue performing brilliantly in the Women’s World Cup in green and it is something that we are all extremely proud of. I congratulate all those Leinster teams including the Seniors, As, Juniors, Schools, Women and age grade teams who won their respective leagues. I congratulate also Wanderers FC who regained entry to the All-Ireland League by winning the AIL qualifying league last season, Terenure College RFC who gained entry to Division 1A and, of course, my own club Clontarf FC who won the All-Ireland League for the first time having suffered final day disappointment on too many occasions in the past. The All-Ireland League has been remarkably successful for nearly 25 years and has adapted well to changing circumstances in the last 15 years in particular. It is to be hoped that significant changes introduced by the IRFU this season and more planned for next do not result in weakening a competition that has served Leinster and Leinster clubs well. Four separate Leinster clubs have won the last four All-Ireland Leagues and with a little luck I hope that it will be a Leinster club which wins the holy grail of Irish club rugby again this season. Achieving success is usually the culmination of hard work, combined with talent and some good luck. When the mix is right, success follows and vice versa. I have some idea of the hard work that goes into the preparation of all our Leinster teams and I have seen the talent that we have at all levels so with a little good luck, our teams should be as competitive as the last couple of seasons and I wish all of them success in their respective competitions. The major competition for European clubs has changed at governance level and has had some tweaks at operational level. It is the fervent wish of all involved and interested in rugby that in making these changes, the competition at this level will continue to develop from where it was – the premier club competition in the world – within which sportsmanship, fairness, integrity and camaraderie among rivals remain at the core. Leinster Rugby continues to evolve; since the game went professional in 1995 Leinster has continued to invest in our playing resources. It is a few years since Leinster moved to the RDS and now, in conjunction with the RDS, we hope to see the development of the RDS equestrian and rugby arena to world class standards in keeping with the needs of both the RDS and Leinster. Hopefully we will see the fruits of the joint work and ideas in the very near future. Four years ago, Leinster Rugby developed, in conjunction with UCD and through the very generous patronage of some of our supporters, state of the art fitness and training facilities at the Belfield complex. Now, thanks to a generous grant from the Department of Sports we are in the course of developing two all-weather pitches at our traditional home in Donnybrook. We expect that these facilities will benefit all levels of the game throughout the 12 county province. We have very generous and supportive sponsors without whom it would be difficult to make the progress we have made. Bank of Ireland very recently announced an extension of the current sponsorship arrangement until 2019 and also announced further funding for the amateur game. This news is to be warmly welcomed and I’d like to thank Bank of Ireland for their continued support. 4 WWW.LEINSTERRUGBY.IE WWW.LEINSTERRUGBY.IE All at Leinster Rugby understand that we must continually move on - standing still and admiring ourselves is not an option. I have no doubt that we can do so and that Leinster led by Mick Dawson, our CEO, and his colleagues will continue the never ending quest for improvement at all levels of our game.

  • Collegians-Rugby-Football-Club
COLLEGIANS RUGBY FOOTBALL CLUB 1890— 1990 by PIERRE PAUL FRY Published by Collegians Rugby Football Club, Belfast, and printed by Nelson & Knox (N.I.) Ltd. BELFAST: 1989 it FOREWORD One does not proceed very far into the research on Collegians Rugby Football Club without realising the depth and the degree to which Collegians owes its survival and existence to the generosity and benevolence of Charles Seaver Neill. Collegians is synomonous with Charlie Neill. Appropriately, the present pavilion at Deramore Park is a tangible memorial to him. It was my privilege to have known him and to have played rugby at Collegians when he was very much the dominating personality. When you met him you saw either the obvious gentleman with old world charm and courtesy or a man with commanding presence, he was over six feet tall and straight in stature, forbidding, even autocratic, but whichever mood he was in you may be sure that underneath his exterior was a most sympathetic and understanding nature. In conversation when he was invariably extolling the virtues of Collegians, he spoke with a distinct, pulsating and passionate voice. Charlie Neill was the great Collegian. I wish to thank many people and sources from which I have had assistance in the compilation of this work. My first acknowledgement must be made to the Belfast Newsletter, the Belfast Telegraph, the Ireland's Saturday Night, the Northern Whig, the Linenhall Library and the Central Library for permission to use their files for reports and results of matches. My thanks are also due to the Methodist College, Belfast for access to its archives, mainly for the records of the early years.
