*Canadian premiere With playing described as a" ... fine blend of artistry and bravura." (Edmonton Journal), flutist Michelle Cheramy is an artist recognized for the beauty of her sound, the fluidity of her playing and her interpretive skills in a wide range of repertoire. She has appeared as soloist with the Edmonton and Newfoundland Symphonies and with the Houston Chamber , and is a frequent recitalist and clinician in the Maritimes and beyond. She has been featured in radio broadcasts in both the US and Canada, including nationally on CBC Radio's In Performance and Two New Hours. Michelle holds degrees from the University of British Columbia and Indiana University, and her primary teachers include Camille Churchfield, Peter Lloyd and Leone Buyse (flutists with the Vancouver, London (UK) and Boston symphonies respectively). She is currently associate professor of music at Memorial University. Sean Rice is a fourth year performance major currently studying clarinet at Memorial University of Newfoundland. Sean first began playing clarinet under the instruction of Vincenza Etchegary and later studied privately with Sean Carroll. In high school Sean held the position of principal clarinet with the Avalon East District Bcµld under the direction of Grant Etchegary. In 2002 Sean was selected to perform in the CBC national radio series 'Up and Coming'. In 2001, he received the Yamaha Rising Star Award and played lead saxophone in the Yamaha All Star Jazz Band at Musicfest Canada. In 2000, he competed in and won the Woodwind Category of the Canadian Federation of Music Festivals National Music Festival. Sean has been an active participant in the local Kiwanis Music Festival winning four Rosebowls: one Junior (2000) and three Senior (2001, 2003 & 2004). Sean has also received runner-up in the 2000 and 2001 Atlantic Debut Young Artists Competition and placed first in the 1999 and 2000 Provincial Music Festivals. In 2003 Sean was invited to perform with the National Arts Centre Orchestra and Symphony Nova Scotia. Sean performed with the National Arts Centre Orchestra while they were in St. John's on their 2003 Atlantic Tour and performed with Symphony Nova Scotia during the Atlantic Scene Festival held in Ottawa. During the Atlantic Scene Festival Sean performed a recital with pianist Patrick Cashin and was a featured soloist on the National Arts Centre Stage with Symphony Nova Scotia. This past summer Sean attended the Banff Centre for the Arts and studied clarinet with 's premiere clarinetist, Fan Lei.

Maureen Volk began her piano studies in Saskatchewan, and received her bachelor of music degree from the University of Regina. With the assistance of The Canada Council, she continued her studies at The Juilliard School in New York, where she received her master of music degree, and at Indiana University, where she completed her doctorate in 1992. Her piano teachers include Sasha Gorodnitzki, Shigeo Neriki, and her current teacher Edna Golandsky. Dr. Volk has performed as a recitalist, orchestral soloist and chamber musician in Canada and the . She was president of the Canadian University Music Society from 1997-99 and director of the School of Music at Memorial from 1990-2000. ·she remains on faculty at the School of Music, where she teaches piano, piano literature and pedagogy, and aural skills. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
