French Guiana (FG) is a biodiversity hotspot for trees, insects and many taxonomic groups. Orchids are pretty diverse but still poorly studied in this department. Orchid identification relies on floral morphology, but unfortunately, it is far more frequent to observe only their leaves. Naturalist often face this practical problem and can solve it through two different approaches. First, orchid can be cultivated in greenhouse, until flowering. This solution leaded experts to collect and store living orchids in FG. Second, orchid DNA can be sequenced, and compared to reference samples. This solution leaded molecular biologists to produce barecode like ITS and matK to identify species. These two approaches were handled in FG, in order to produce a set of reference sequences for orchids in FG. A total of 203 ITS and 170 matK sequences was produce, adding 103 species ans 7 genera to Genbank database.
