A Fine, All Original Mid-Sixties Two Pick-Up Epiphone Olympic 1965 Epiphone Olympic SB 722D. Sunburst (9.00). #01437 $1,750 This fine and very light guitar weighs just 5.60 lbs. One-piece mahogany neck with a fast thin-to-medium profile. Black faced 'Batwing' headstock with "Epiphone" silk-screened in gold. Rosewood fretboard with 22 original jumbo frets and pearl dot markers. Serial number "323241" stamped in blind on back of headstock. Six-in-a-row 'double-line' Kluson Deluxe tuners with white plastic oval buttons. The scale length is a standard Gibson 24 3/4 inches and the nut width is just over 1 9/16 inches. Two Melody Maker single-coil pickups with nice, balanced outputs of 6.97k and 7.09k. Single-layer white plastic pickguard with inlaid silver Epiphone 'Epsilon' and eight screws. Four controls (two volume, two tone) plus three-way selector switch and jack socket, all on pickguard. Black plastic ribbed-sided knobs with metal tops with red markings. The potentiometers are stamped "134 6508" & "134 6523" (Centralab February & June 1965). Combination ridged "wrap-over" bridge, factory Epiphone Vibrola tailpiece with tubular tremolo arm with walrus-tooth tip. There is a minimal amount of belt-buckle scarring on the back and a few very small surface marks, mainly on the edges. This fine little, all original mid- sixties guitar is in exceptionally fine (9.00) condition. Housed in a later 3-latch black softshell case with blue felt lining (8.50). "The solidbody line got a complete overhaul that gave the models as much first- impression power as the new sharp-pointed, double-cutaway Gibson SG models. -

LAST # YEAR downright impossible in some cases. The best method of identifying 13350 1912 them is to use a combination of the serial number, the factory order 16100 1913 number and any features that are particular to a specific time (i.e. logo 20150 1914 design change, headstock volutes, etc). 25150 1915 In addition to the above serial number information, Gibson also used 32000 1916 Factory Order Numbers (FON) to track batches of instruments being produced at the time. In the earlier years at Gibson, guitars were nor- 39500 1917 mally built in batches of forty instruments. The Standard Gibson Les Paul Electric Guitar The guitar is a musical instrument that has been around for many centuries. Music composition and sound evolved quite drastically over time. Therefore, the guitar transformed and evolved as well. Since the beginning of the rock and roll era, guitarists, such as Slash, Randy Rhoads, and Jimmy Page favored the Standard Gibson Les Paul electric guitar for its smooth playability as well as crisp and piercing tones. Amazingly the Gibson Les Paul consists of simple mechanisms. These simple mechanisms are found on the three main components of the Gibson Les Paul guitar: the headstock, the neck, and the body. The Headstock The Neck The Body The Headstock The first component, the headstock, has its own subcomponent: the tuners. The headstock is one of the most significant parts of the guitar because it houses six tuners which tune the guitar strings as well as hold the strings in place. It is made out of mahogany wood and angled at fourteen degrees with respect to the neck. Tuners The Gibson Les Paul’s headstock houses six tuners with three on each side of the headstock that separately hold guitar strings E, A, D, G, B, and e in place. Depending on which side of the headstock the user turns the tuner knobs, the guitar produces lower or higher pitched tones when the string(s) are plucked. Lower pitch results from the tuner knob turned in the direction that decreases the string tension, whereas the higher pitch results from the tuner knob turned in the direction that increases string tension. -

James Tyler Variax JTV-59 (Korea) - The 48 Hour Review L6 Expert Review by Nick Mattocks Manufacturer: Line 6 Model: James Tyler Variax – JTV-59 Finish: Cherry Sunburst Country of Origin: Korea Current street price (UK): £1099 GBP Date Received: 17 June 2011 Packaging The guitar arrived in a strong cardboard box inside which there were two foam end-caps supporting the same reasonably robust Line 6 Variax gig-bag that was supplied with earlier model Variax 700 guitars and in the same light grey colour. Having ordered and paid for the guitar over ten months ago – I have to say I was somewhat excited to say the least to see it actually in a big cardboard box in my front room after so long But hopefully I kept my excitement under control well enough to appreciate what I have actually got and to write a balanced review of my findings after owning and playing the guitar during the first 48 hours or so of ownership. The first thing that should be visible when opening the box correctly at the top end is an A4 sheet detailing what should be contained in the packaging and where it is located. The end cap at the top of the box contained: the battery, battery charger, battery charger cable/PSU, various clip-on mains adapters, USB Variax WorkBench interface and VDI cable. The gig bag pockets contained a small tool kit comprising several Allen wrenches of different sizes for truss rod adjustment, bridge height adjustment and intonation adjustment. With my guitar everything was exactly where it should be and the packaging was more than robust enough to have withstood the journey from the factory in Korea to Line 6’s warehousing facility in Holland and then by couriers to the UK and finally on to me via a local supplier. -
