WELCOME TO ‘THE TYE’

So named as they originally played on land called The Tye . We welcome Peacehaven & Telscombe FC for the first time to Bourne Park . An emphatic 6-3 victory away to Westfield in the Extra Preliminary round sets up todays clash in the FA Cup Preliminary round. Reward today for the winners is an away trip to Bognor Regis Town in the next round on September 17th. Peacehaven & Telscombe are a step 5 club playing in Division One of the Sussex County League. They Finished in third position last season 2010/11 with Crawley Down the champi- ons now playing in the same League as Sittingbourne. Today is a chance for Sittingbourne to seek revenge for a shock defeat at Peacehaven & Telscombe in the 4th round of the FA Vase losing 4-1 in front of a large crowd in season 1992/93 at Piddinghoe Avenue. Sittingbourne won the Beazer Homes (South) with ease that season, and were widely tipped as favourites for the Vase. We arrived at Peachaven having disposed of Camberley Town (7- 0), Chertsey Town (4-2) and Malden Vale (4-2), whilst Peacehaven & Telscombe reached the 4th Round, for the first time in their history, with wins over Herne Bay (5-1) ,Northwood (2-1) and a 4-0 replay victory against Bourne Town. Sittingbourne were firm favourites and the tie aroused a lot of media interest. A crowd of 882 saw Peacehaven take an early lead when Mark Taylor headed home after just 6 minutes. Second half goals from Rene Duchossoy, Richard Cheal (penalty) and Alan Ingledew put the game way beyond the visitors, and Sittingbourne's consolation was a last minute strike from Dave Arter. We were well beaten that day. Peacehaven fully deserved the win and made it to the last 16 of the Vase where they eventually lost out to Gresley Rovers. Amazingly the Dover side included three players that have played 1st team football for Sittingbourne. Luke Girt, Connor Coyne and Shaun Raggett all played for Dover. Although the vastly experenced Dover team ran out 5-1 winners our academy boys can take many positives from the game. The whole team played well. Goalkeeper Josh Hopson played with confidence, his handling was first class. AJ Whitethread at right back was composed, Chris Town defended very well and Codie Dean caused all sorts of problems for the Dover defence. The Sittingbourne goal was scored by James Lelliott. The squad for the game was: Josh Hopson, Lewis Moyo, AJ Whitethread, Shane Gadstone, Jack Sayer, Chris Town, James Lelliott, Luke Mitchell, Theo Mugadza, Joe Damiral, Codie Dean, Joe Brown, Max Farrell, Aaron Lingham and Johnny Goldsmith.

The boys are at home again next Wednesday 7th September against Tilbury in a friendly at 2-00pm. Free admission and the bar will be open.

The Brickies have never really set the world alight in the FA Cup, possibly the best known football competition in the world. It is possible for clubs progressing, even in the earliest rounds, to reap considerable finan- cial rewards, and for 2011/2012 season the prize money for the winning teams in the open- ing rounds is: £ Extra Preliminary Round 750 Preliminary Round 1,500 1st Round Qualifying 3,000 2nd Round Qualifying 4,500 3rd Round Qualifying 7,500 4th Round Qualifying 12,500

Just imagine what that does for clubs such as ourselves or our visitors today. In addition to prize money, all non-league clubs are entitled to 45% of gate receipts to which the FA add another 5% so all non-league clubs get 50% and League clubs 45%. The percentage is the same for home and away teams. The FA take 10% of gate receipts.

Sittingbourne have reached the FA Cup Second Round Proper twice and the First Round Proper three times. The last being as long ago as 1962/63 with their best days being in the 1920’s!
