RESEARCH INTERESTS

I am committed to a research agenda that focuses on examining how we can promote the healthy development of all children and adolescents, and in particular vulnerable youth whose families and communities face environmental and structural challenges. My research utilizes qualitative and mixed methods to understand how relationships with supportive adults, including parents and mentors, can support youth, with an emphasis on identifying modifiable targets for developmentally appropriate, evidence-informed prevention and intervention efforts.

RESEARCH INTERESTS

I am focused on qualitative and mixed methods research that advances the voices of care leavers (former foster youth) as they emerge into adulthood, in the U. S. and in other countries around the world. Employing positive youth development and capital development principles in my research, my goal is to improve practice and policy by identifying aspects of care leavers’ experiences that are not well-addressed by present practice or policy and may be contributing to persistent negative outcomes during adulthood.
