Milt embodied everything it meant to be a Boston Bruin both on and off the ice. Milt has impacted the Boston Bruins organization in many different capacities, as a player on the ice, a coach behind the bench and as a general manager, cementing himself in NHL history as one of the all time greats. Anyone who knew Milt personally know he was one of the all time greats off the ice as well. His beaming smile, sharp whit and infectious laugh could light up a room with such an incredible presence that can't be matched. We extend our condolences to all of Milt's family and friends during this difficult time.” Bruins President Cam Neely "I got to know Milt when I arrived in Boston, and I quickly learned that he was an outstanding ambassador for the game of hockey, a true gentleman, and that he epitomized what it means to be a Bruin. When people today talk about ‘Bruins Hockey’ they talk about the style that Milt created, and generations of Bruins after him tried to emulate. After his playing and coaching days were over, he remained incredibly giving of his time and the wealth of knowledge that he had accumulated over his career to everyone associated with the Bruins and the game of hockey. I’ve seen him many times, either in my office or the dressing room. Obviously he was here when he came to drop the puck. I’ve got a lot of memories of my chats, I even received letters from Milt over the years, congratulating me and stuff like that, still hand-written letters that I’ve kept, knowing who it’s from and how special it was, so there’s a lot of fond memories of Milt. Unfortunately, I wasn’t around for Milt’s great years as a coach, GM, and obviously as a player. You look back at all of the things he’s accomplished, it’s amazing. I don’t know any other way to say it, but to say he’s definitely the Ultimate Bruin. He’s done it all, he’s been loyal, he’s been around forever, and he’ll be dearly missed. He’s had a great life. 98 years old. I think he was going to be 99 in March. What a great life he’s had, and what a great opportunity we’ve had to spend some time with him.” Bruins legend and Hockey Hall of Famer John Bucyk “He was like a big brother to me in his coaching days and his GM days and ever since after that we were very close friends. He just loved the Bruins, to this day. He watched the games and we’d bring him to games. He was just a great man. [I consider him] right on top [as the greatest Bruin] along with Bobby [Orr] – to me, they’d be the two favorites. Milt was my first coach, my first GM. He was such a great person, I just can’t say enough about him.” Bruins Captain Zdeno Chara “Today is a very sad day to find out about losing one of our own breed, Mr. Milt Schmidt. Milt has been one of the most respected and friendly human beings that I have ever met and spent time with. Losing Milt, who spent his life dedicated to the game of hockey, is a great loss for the Boston Bruins organization and the entire hockey community. I will always cherish the times we had together listening to him reminisce about old time hockey as well as our conversations on today's style of the game – the game that he just loved so much. My deepest condolences go out to his entire family and closest friends. He’s been a tremendous investment, but his personality and his character goes a long way to establish what this team is. I think he’s done a great job with it. And his captaincy is very much earned. BC (Bruce Cassidy): As far as a mentor on the ice, Brandon Carlo could best answer that. But clearly he has been paired with him and both Charlie McAvoy, two young guys. Because he accepts that role, he relishes it. He wants to work with younger guys, while still taking care of business on the ice.

Joakim Nordstrom is not going to start with us – an injury we’ve been looking at, been working his way back in. And obviously, Krech [David Krejci] is still working his way back. We started with no [Kevan] Miller and [John] Moore, and then he got hurt, so that’s one of the primary concerns in the organization where we’re going to be health-wise. Next man up in those situations. Bruce and the team’s done a really good job. Overall, I thought our game was really good. We executed in games; we had different lineups; we had a lot of opportunity for younger players to see what they would do. We certainly managed the minutes of the players that had gone deep in the playoffs with us, and that was by design. I think that if you look at the practices, we ask the guys to show up and work every day and do things they want to do and accomplish, and I think it was designed and set up that way, and I think it was executed that way. On David Krejci’s status to start the season… DS: You know, it’s to be determined still. He worked his way back out there for practice, and hopefully he’ll continue to do the same, so we’ll evaluate him every day.

On the PTO players from Training Camp… PTO guys, Daniel Winnik has another opportunity he’s currently exploring, so we’re going to be in contact with him over the next few days to see what ultimately is his decision and ours, so we both explore things. The same thing with Lee [Stempniak]. Those PTOs will expire officially on the third as rosters open up. It doesn’t mean Lee won’t stay with us and continue to play with us. On if it was Torey Krug’s same ankle… Same foot, an ankle, but not related to the previous injury. CASSIDY On Matt Grzelcyk’s status… Got through practice today, didn’t complete every drill, but he’s progressing well. Better answer tomorrow after practice. We’re hoping he’ll go full-go, all-contact. If he gets through that then obviously he looks good for Wednesday. On Matt Grzelcyk’s replacement if he is not ready by Wednesday… It would be him [Urho Vaakanainen] or [Steven] Kampfer. Right now, Vaakanainen, three lefts, three rights is kind of the way we’re looking but we’ll make that decision once we hear about Grizz [Matt Grzelcyk].

I think hope springs eternal and we set off hoping and looking forward to extending the season. As it did evolve, I think the correction was good and I think we did a tremendous job once we had Butch [Bruce Cassidy] in place, so I’m happy with where we are and I’m happy with the next generation of players coming into this organization. On how much outside help Cam Neely thinks the team needs… CN: Well, we’re going to look at that, there’s no question. We do have some players coming. We’re excited about them and whether or not they can push for jobs remains to be seen. But, we’re certainly going to look and see what transpires in the offseason and see if we can plug a couple of those holes. On Mr. Jacobs adding context to being happy where they are and if he would make changes in other businesses if they were performing to this extent… JJ: I think this is – well, this is different. It’s a sports franchise and it’s evolving. We went a particular direction and we had a seat change in direction, so I think there’s been substantive change.
