  • Portsmouth Number List 2019
Portsmouth Number List 2019 The RYA Portsmouth Yardstick Scheme is provided to enable clubs to allow boats of different classes to race against each other fairly. The RYA actively encourages clubs to adjust handicaps where classes are either under or over performing compared to the number being used. The Portsmouth Yardstick list combines the Portsmouth numbers with class configuration and the total number of races returned to the RYA in the annual return. This additional data has been provided to help clubs achieve the stated aims of the Portsmouth Yardstick system and make adjustments to Portsmouth Numbers where necessary. Clubs using the PN list should be aware that the list is based on the typical performance of each boat across a variety of clubs and locations. Experimental numbers are based on fewer returns and are to be used as a guide for clubs to allocate as a starting number before reviewing and adjusting where necessary. The list of experimental Portsmouth Numbers will be periodically reviewed by the RYA and is based on data received via PY Online. Users of the PY scheme are reminded that all Portsmouth Numbers published by the RYA should be regarded as a guide only. The RYA list is not definitive and clubs should adjust where necessary. • Recommended Division Assignments for Classic Racing Under CRF
Recommended Division Assignments for Classic Racing under CRF Produced by the CYOA Technical Committee The CYOA Technical Committee has released 2020 Classic Yacht Racing Guidelines, a document that provides recommendations to Organizing Authorities (OA’s) planning to conduct races under the CRF rating rule. Part 2 of these recommendations states that “Yachts shall be assigned to divisions based on their original design date when they have been equipped and built with methods and materials consistent with that original design or that are appropriate for their division. Variations from original equipment, materials and methods may be accepted at the discretion of the OA, and may also be addressed via CRF rating formulae and factors.” Section 2.2 of these recommendations goes on to state that “Yachts shall be grouped into divisions based on the following guidelines,” and describes these divisions as follows: Vintage: Yachts designed before January 1, 1950 and built, maintained, and restored with materials and methods consistent with the original design. Classic: Yachts designed on or after January 1, 1950 whose rudders are attached to the trailing edge of the keel with at least one pivot point on the sternpost, and that are rated by CRF with Keel Type 5 or Type 6. Modern Classic: Yachts designed on or after January 1, 1950 and typically before January 1, 1975, whose rudders are separated from the trailing edge of the keel and that are rated by CRF as Keel Type 3 or Type 4. Spirit of Tradition: Yachts typically designed on or after January 1, 1975 whose rudders are separated from the trailing edge of the keel and that are rated by CRF as Keel Type 1,2,3,or 4, and whose design embodies an appreciation of classic yacht or traditional workboat shapes and aesthetics.

  • US Sailing Rig Dimensions Database
ABOUT THIS CRITICAL DIMENSION DATA FILE There are databases that record critical dimensions of production sailboats that handicappers may use to identify yachts that race and to help them determine a sailing number to score competitive events. These databases are associated with empirical or performance handicapping systems worldwide and are generally available from those organizations via internet access. This data file contains dimensions for some, but not all, production boats reported to USPHRF since 1995. These data may be used to support performance handicapping by affiliated USPHRF fleets. There are many more boats in databases that sailmakers and handicappers possess. The USPHRF Technical Subcommittee and the US SAILING Offshore Office have several. This Adobe Acrobat file contains data mostly supplied by USPHRF affiliated fleets, a few manufacturers, naval architects, and others making contributions to database. While this data file is generally helpful, it does contain errors of omission and inaccuracies that are left to users to rectify by sending corrections to USPHRF by way of the data form below. The form also asks for additional information that anticipates the annual fall data collection from USPHRF affiliated fleets. Return this form to the USPHRF Committee c/o US SAILING. How do you access information in this data file of well over 5000 records for a specific boat? Use Adobe Acrobat Reader’s ‘FIND” feature, <CTRL-F>. Information currently in the file will be displayed for each Yacht Type/Class upon request. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________
