[ 2 ] MUSIC We welcome Ben Parry, a former member of the Choir, as Assistant Director of Music, who will have principal responsibility for King’s Voices. Also joining us this term, as Junior Organ Scholar, is Tom Etheridge, a former chorister of King’s. He will join Douglas Tang, Senior Organ Scholar, and Prime Brass in a programme of music for brass and organ on Saturday 12 October at 6.30 p.m. Former Organ Scholars feature prominently in this term’s calendar: last term, the choir presented movements from lit by holy fire by Francis Grier (KC 1973), and offers more this term on 12 October, 19 October and 10 November. Simon Preston (KC 1958) celebrated his 75th birthday on 4 August, and music by him is included at Evensong on Saturday 26 October, which is followed by an organ recital in his honour, featuring music he recorded during his time at King’s, music written for him, and music written by him. Daniel Hyde (KC 2000) joins with Matthew Martin in this recital. Peter Barley (KC 1987) plays the recital on Saturday 16 November. There will be instrumental accompaniment at the Remembrance Sunday Requiem, and at the Christmas Day Sung Eucharist. The centenary of Benjamin Britten’s birth falls on St Cecilia’s Day, Friday 22 November, when music by Britten and by one of his favourite composers, Henry Purcell, will feature at Evensong. ILLUSTRATIONS This term’s illustrations are reproduced from photographs taken of 16th century Chapel stonework by Richard Lloyd Morgan.
