THE AMERICAN SCHOOL OF CLASSICAL STUDIES AT ATHENS Annual Reports 2008–2009 through 2009–2010 VISION The American School of Classical Studies at Athens strives to maintain and enhance its position as the preeminent center for the study of the Greek world from antiquity to the present day. MISSION The American School of Classical Studies at Athens (ASCSA) advances knowledge of Greece in all periods, as well as other areas of the classical world, by training young scholars, sponsoring and promoting archaeological fieldwork, providing resources for scholarly work, and disseminating research. The ASCSA is also charged by the Hellenic Ministry of Culture and Tourism with primary responsibility for all American archaeological research, and seeks to support the investigation, preservation, and presentation of Greece’s cultural heritage. PHILOSOPHY The study of Greece from antiquity to the present day is critical for understanding the civilizations, history and culture of the Mediterranean, Europe, and Western Asia. The ASCSA supports a multidisciplinary approach to Hellenic studies, encompassing the fields of archaeology, anthropology, the archaeological sciences, topography, architecture, epigraphy, numismatics, history, art, language, literature, philosophy, religion, and cultural studies. As an institution in Greece sponsored by a consortium of institutions of higher education in North America, the ASCSA makes its resources available to qualified scholars, promotes the highest standards of research and archaeological fieldwork, and shares the results of its work. American Time Use Survey (ATUS) Data Dictionary: 2019 ATUS-CPS File Variables collected in the Current Population Survey (CPS) June 2020 The American Time Use Survey (ATUS) is sponsored by the Bureau of Labor Statistics and conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau. ATUS-CPS______________________________________________________________________________________________________ data: Variables collected in CPS June 2020 Important Information about the ATUS Data Dictionary (ATUS-CPS) Introduction The American Time Use Survey (ATUS) is sponsored by the Bureau of Labor Statistics and conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau. The purpose of this document is to provide information about the variables available on one of the 2019 ATUS data files, the ATUS-CPS file. Some of these variables also appear on the Activity Summary file. The ATUS-CPS file contains information collected in the Current Population Survey (CPS) interviews about persons selected to participate in ATUS and members of their households. The file has one record for each household member. The CPS interviews were conducted two to five months prior to the ATUS interview. For this reason, some of the information on the ATUS-CPS file was out of date at the time of the ATUS interview. When possible, it is best to use variables collected in ATUS rather than their CPS counterparts. The ATUS-CPS file contains information about persons who were members of the household during the last CPS interview and were still members of the household at the time of the ATUS interview. For those cases that did not complete the ATUS interview, all members of the household during the last CPS interview are included on the ATUS-CPS file. -

Nevertheless, the transition from an authoritarian or totalitarian regime to a consolidated plural democracy proved to be difficult in many post-Soviet countries – especially where concurrent processes of state- and nation-building took place, as was the case for Georgia. Therefore, the so-called Rose Revolution of November 2003 gave cause to high expectations inherent in the new government of Mikheil Sa- akashvili and a young generation of politicians which succeeded President Eduard Shevardnadze after he resigned following mass demonstrations against extensive election fraud. This report analyzes the conditions relevant to democratic consolidation in Georgia. Does the Rose Revolution really represent a “decisive twist” in the country’s development? Is the Saakashvili administration capable of living up to the hopes for democratic reform inherent in it? What are the chances and challenges of the political dynamic that unfolded after the change of government? And what kind of entry points can be identified for ex- ternal players to intervene so as to influence the situation positively? The report shows that the conditions for Georgia’s democratization process have been very difficult and still are with regard to democratic consolidation. -
