Donau, August 25, 2019 – Jubilation in Japan: Kelvin van der Linde/Dries Vanthoor/Frédéric Vervisch celebrated victory in the 10 Hours of Suzuka, which makes for high suspense in the title race of the world’s only GT3 racing series before the finale in November. Frédéric Vervisch, in third position, is now only six points off the top spot. Christopher Haase/Christopher Mies/Markus Winkelhock were running in second position until the last hour of racing before dropping back to seventh due to a delayed refueling stop. “By clinching victory in Japan, Audi Sport Team WRT as well as the drivers delivered an impeccable performance in this crucial phase of the championship,” says Chris Reinke, Head of Audi Sport customer racing. “As a result, following a difficult start to the season, we put ourselves in the best possible position.” In the early phase, the number 25 nogaro blue Audi R8 LMS, whose color and number are reminiscent of Audi’s first RS model 25 years ago, held its ground in third position. (President: Akira Kurashita, Head office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, Japan) today announced details of Round 3 of the 2017 Japanese SUPER FORMULA Championship Series, scheduled to take place on July 8–9 at Fuji Speedway (length = 4.563 km) in Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan. Round 3 will feature an official qualifying session based on a knock-out format, followed by a championship race of 55 laps (250.965 km). Fuji Speedway has Japan’s longest back straight, making it the ideal spot to enjoy head-to-head battles. To achieve the highest possible speeds, race cars need to reduce downforce and drag, but the sequence of corners in the back half of the course means drivers want more downforce to negotiate turns. Teams that set up their race cars to skillfully balance that contradiction stand a good chance of victory. After Round 1 at Suzuka and the two races in Round 2 at Okayama, Andre Lotterer (VANTELIN TEAM TOM’S), Kazuki Nakajima (VANTELIN TEAM TOM’S) and Yuhi Sekiguchi (ITOCHU ENEX TEAM IMPUL) each have one win under their belts. Naoki Yamamoto (TEAM MUGEN) and Hiroaki Ishiura (P.MU/CERUMO · INGING) also gained points in all of the first three races. Those five drivers currently occupy the top positions in the standings. Porsche will tackle the 12-hour race in Bathurst (Australia) from the fourth grid row. Porsche Young Professional Matt Campbell set the seventh quickest time in the Top 10 shootout on the Mount Panorama Circuit. The young Australian tapped virtually the full potential of the Porsche 911 GT3 R, which he shares with factory driver Dirk Werner (Germany) and Porsche Young Professional Dennis Olsen (Norway). Up against stiff opposition from seven other GT3 manufacturers, Campbell took just 2:03.186 minutes to lap the 6.213-kilometre racetrack in the No. 912 Porsche. In the previous two qualifying sessions, Frenchman Mathieu Jaminet narrowly missed out on being eligible to fight for a top ten grid spot in the sister car run by the EBM (Earl Bamber Motorsport) customer team. On his hottest lap, the Porsche Young Professional was just 0.08 seconds shy of a top ten place. The No. 911 Porsche 911 GT3 R, which Jaminet shares with the works drivers Romain Dumas (France) and Sven Müller (Germany), takes up the race from twelfth on the grid. Factory driver Kévin Estre planted the identical ca. 500 hp car fielded by the Competition Motorsports/McElrea Racing customer squad on 13th place.
