Donau, August 25, 2019 – Jubilation in Japan: Kelvin van der Linde/Dries Vanthoor/Frédéric Vervisch celebrated victory in the 10 Hours of Suzuka, which makes for high suspense in the title race of the world’s only GT3 racing series before the finale in November. Frédéric Vervisch, in third position, is now only six points off the top spot. Christopher Haase/Christopher Mies/Markus Winkelhock were running in second position until the last hour of racing before dropping back to seventh due to a delayed refueling stop. “By clinching victory in Japan, Audi Sport Team WRT as well as the drivers delivered an impeccable performance in this crucial phase of the championship,” says Chris Reinke, Head of Audi Sport customer racing. “As a result, following a difficult start to the season, we put ourselves in the best possible position.” In the early phase, the number 25 nogaro blue Audi R8 LMS, whose color and number are reminiscent of Audi’s first RS model 25 years ago, held its ground in third position. While several strong rivals lost their chances early due to accidents and penalties, Audi Sport Team WRT avoided making any mistakes.

Audi Sport customer racing teams won the Dubai 24 Hours and the Gulf 12 Hours with the GT3 race car in 2019. In strategic commitments, Audi Sport together with its partners decided the Nürburgring 24 Hours for the fifth time and the Suzuka 10 Hours for the first time in its favor. Title successes in Australia, Germany, Central Europe and Thailand round out the tally of the young race car to date. This is because this being the historic race that has inherited the tradition of Suzuka 1000km that has accumulated 46 times as well as being the GT racing event that has a special concept. This distinctive and symbolic event is the challenging and special race at Suzuka Circuit where the cars of GT300 class of SUPER GT and Intercontinental Challenge (IGTC) as well as the champion teams from GT series with the cars based on FIA GT3 in each country. Moreover, Suzuka 10h is the event that greatly welcomes drivers and customer teams who love GT racing held worldwide such as in Asia and Europe get together and enjoy the whole Suzuka 10h to the full extent through the competitive race and attractions at Suzuka Circuit. Suzuka 10h will be the event that has the special glow in the world motorsport calendar in 2018. CATEGORIES ELIGIBLE CARS For the SUZUKA 10 Hours Endurance Race, the eligible cars are as follows with the purpose of realizing the standardized round of GT racing held around the world such as FIA GT3 Series, GT300 and ST-X.
