Description Image Source The famous disciple who did yeoman service in spreading the message of Śrī Nārāyaņa Guru beyond the frontiers of Kerala is Nataraja Guru Śrī Nārāyaņa Guru visited Sri Lanka in 1918 and 1923 and set up a centre there for the propagation of his teachings in that country Dr.Palpu labored as the right hand man of Sri Naryuana Guru in his effort to bring about savarna-avarna harmonization in Kerala. It was he who gave the name Sri Narayana Dharma Paripalana Yogam (SNDP) to the earlier Vavootu sangham, which functioned at Aruvippuram Through his Kannadi pratishta Guru likened the mind to a mirror. According to him, only in a clear mind free from impurities God’s vision can be reflected. The mystic symbol ‘OM’ in it was representing Brahman 5.2. ABSTRACT Narayana Guru was born in 1854 in a poor family of peasants of the Ezhava Community at Chempalanthi in Trivandrum District. The district was a bilingual area of Tamil and Malayalee culture. His father MadanAsan was a cultivator as well as scholar in astronomy and medicine. His mother was Kuttu. He had four daughters and three sons.1Like VaikundaSwamigal, he too revolted against Brahmin ascendancy and campaigned for the mitigation of the rigorous of caste. He was an exponent of the principle of equality of men and an opponent of the inequalities in religion and society. He rendered great services to promote the welfare of the people belonging to backward and downtrodden communties.2 KEYWORDS: Narayana Guru , backward and downtrodden communities. INTRODUCTION : During his younger days Nanu was very active. He was also curious and inquisitive. From a village teacher by name MuttaPillai, he learned to read and write Malayalam. Then he studied Sanskrit and principles of medicine from his uncle Krishna Vaidyan. Nanu was dedicated in the study the drammatical literary works of Thirukkural, Tholkappiyam, Manimekalai, Silappatikaram and Thiruvasakam. At the age of thirty, Nanu left his house, informing nobody, but after keeping a letter together with a gift of cloth for one of his friends, and walked southward to Maruthuvalmalai located on the southern range of the Western Ghats near Suchindram and entered into a cave to perform tapas.When he had no food, he came out of the cave but could get nothing.

http://www.epitomejournals.com, Vol. 4, Issue 3, March 2018, ISSN: 2395-6968 SREE CHATTAMPI SWAMIKAL: SOCIAL REFORMER IN TRAVANCORE - Ruby J., ABSTRACT Sree Vidyadhiraja Parama Bhattaraka Chattampi Swamikal, shortly known as Chattampi Swamikal was a Hindu sage and social reformer. He is also called as Sree Vidhyadhiraja Chattampi Swamikal. His thoughts and actives have catalyzed many social movements and reforms in Travancore. Swamikal along with his contemporary, Narayana Guru and Ayyankali during 19th century strived hard to fight against caste system and social injustice that existed in Kerala a century ago. He also worked for emancipation of women and encouraged them to overcome creation of social disabilities of the Travancore society. He propagated the principles of ‘Ahimsa’ and preached for the classless society. He strongly opposed the conversion actives of the Christian missionaries though he was not against Christianity. According to him, different religions are different paths leading to the same place. Today the southern part of India, lower caste people occupied important places social, cultural, Education and other field. In this context, this paper highlighted the role of Chattampi Swamikal for the liberation of Travancore downtrodden. Nataraja Guru in Love and Blessings
Memoirs of Nataraja Guru in Nitya’s Love and Blessings (his autobiography, in chronological order) and In the Stream of Consciousness As a mendicant, Nitya got in a food line, which turned out to be a trick to enlist poor Indians into the British army, early in WWII. He served for some time. This is one of his stories: In one section I had to deal with, the British were receiving new battalions into the transit camp from overseas, arranging meals for them, posting them to war fronts, and notifying their families in case they were injured or killed. One day I received a message that a convoy of 160 soldiers was coming in that night, and they should be given hot meals. I passed the message on to my good friend Fernandez, the steward, and he promised to feed them. When the convoy arrived I received them, showed them their tents, and directed them to the mess hall. When I called over, I was told that Fernandez had gone home and there hadn’t been any instructions to make dinner for the new arrivals. The hungry men in the convoy were furious. They had to make do with bread and canned fish. There was no possibility of avoiding a court martial. It was painful for me to join the proceedings against my friend, but I hid my conscience behind the regulations. When the charge sheet was handed over to him and read before the presiding officer, Fernandez smiled in his gentle way and said, “That’s okay.” When the officer asked him why he neglected his duty he said, “I didn’t do it on purpose.
