The most popular show in the industry Customer-satisfactions surveys show that the Paris Air Show is the most popular air show amongst visitors and exhibitors. The SIAE has carried out customer satisfaction surveys with visitors (trade and general public) and exhibitors since 2007. In 2015, 98% of visitors were satisfied (40% of whom were very satisfied), a number that has continued to rise since 2007. Why is the show so popular? Because the Paris Air Show is a unique event in terms of its size and diversity: it brings together all players in the world aerospace industry it offers a large number of flying displays with great visibility it offers trade professionals the opportunity to present their products and expertise in the best conditions, to trade visitors as well as the general public it is always oriented towards young people, jobs and training (free entry for students that have booked in advance on Friday 23 June - Careers Plane - Jobs and Training Forum) Lastly, the show has made improving its exhibitor and visitor services a priority (significant investment in setting up the exhibition centre, digitalizing processes, provision of new high-performance tools, etc.) Outside the show, the large number of events organized by exhibitors and the immediate proximity to Paris also contribute to making the show a unique experience. 3. 2015 figures International Paris Air Show 2017 Press kit (Version 11/06/17) 4 SERVICES AND NEW FEATURES 1. Paris Air Lab - New in 2017 This innovative area will be located in the centre of the air show in the Concorde Hall. This 2,000m² area will be entirely dedicated to the innovations of the major players in the aerospace industry, as well as those of the start-ups in the sector. Paris Air Lab will also be an area for exploring ideas and the location of immersive experiences using virtual and augmented reality. Paris Air Lab is based on three main elements: PICK-UP YOUR INNOVATION This area offers a journey between exhibition booths dedicated to innovation in the aerospace sector, together with the digital industries. These booths will define an itinerary spread between collaborative research from major groups, organized into major national and European programmes, and the creative fusion of start-ups in the field. These themed booths, dedicated to collaborative innovation in the sector, will be organized into three journeys that make it possible to compare the work of major groups, major research institutes and start-ups on the following themes: - "Aeronautics" (aircraft of the future, sustainable aviation, propulsion, etc.) - "Digital and new applications" (drones, connectivity, Aeronautic Factories of the future, etc.) - "Space" (earth observation, space agencies, etc.) This area will also play host to two daily sessions of presentations, keynote speeches from major industrials in the sector, introducing a themed series of "pitches" from start-ups. VISIONARY HUB This area will hold short conferences for extraordinary encounters on the aerospace industry of tomorrow. Based on the Battle Conferences model, iconic figures and experts from diverse backgrounds will discuss, debate and even battle each other in order to encourage the public to think about the major evolutions of today and tomorrow. International Paris Air Show 2017 Press kit (Version 11/06/17) 5 EXPERIMENTAL GATES This area will provide immersive experiences in the world of aerospace using augmented and virtual reality. A collaborative mobile robot has been built in order to carry out those tasks. The robot is able to navigate autonomously around the aircraft and perform non-destructive testing thanks to several sensors. More precisely, in this paper we focus on how to obtain a correct position of the 3D scanner fixed on a scissor with respect to the aircraft. It acquires 3D data which is analyzed to process surface inspection. The functional safety of the scissor is based on automatic visual checking of some cues.

  • Austrian Airlines Using Donecle's Automated Inspection Drone
Press Release Austrian Airlines using Donecle’s automated inspection drone Toulouse, France, September 6th, 2019. Donecle announced it has signed on Austrian Airlines, member of the Lufthansa Group, for its automated drone inspection solution. Donecle is excited to partner with Austrian Airlines to help the airline optimize their maintenance process by reducing time of aircraft inspection while increasing reliability, safety and traceability of airframe checks. Donecle delivered its solution to Austrian which has been using it since the middle of the year for aircraft visual inspections during line maintenance as well as for unscheduled events. Donecle not only provides an automated drone which scans the complete external surface of the aircraft, but also delivers analysis software which assists the inspector to visualize and detect defects on the images, evaluate paint quality or check regulatory markings. All images are stored on a secure cloud platform to build a digital history of the aircraft and improve traceability over time, contributing to a paperless process. Josselin Bequet, CEO and co-founder of Donecle says: “We are very happy to provide our solution to Austrian and to collaborate on extended features and capabilities. This validates the relevance of our solution and the need from the market to integrate new innovative solutions in their maintenance process to optimize their daily activities.” A technical partnership was also agreed to work on the lightning strike use case. With the current traditional manual process, inspecting an aircraft after a lightning takes several hours to check for potential damage. With Donecle’s solution, Austrian expects to considerably reduce this long inspection time down to 2 hours, having a significant impact on AOG costs and aircraft availability to better serve its passengers.

13 START-UPS JOIN IAG’S LATEST HANGAR 51 ACCELERATOR International Airlines Group (IAG) has chosen 13 finalists to join its latest Hangar 51 global accelerator programme in collaboration with Iberia, Vueling and IAG Cargo. From 474 applications in around 50 countries, 36 start-ups presented their innovative products and services before 250 senior aviation and travel industry executives and a high level judging panel, including four airline CEOs, at a pitch day in Madrid. The 13 successful start-ups will be embedded in the heart of IAG for 10 weeks where they will be working side by side with mentors and experts from across the Group gaining access to resources to develop, shape and scale up their business. The innovative projects include next generation voice artificial intelligence and new carbon capture technology to effectively remove CO2 emissions from the atmosphere. The initiative is based in Spain for the second time after the huge success of its previous Spanish programme in 2017. The selected start-ups will co-work with IAG teams across Europe. The Hangar 51 finalists in seven categories are: Sustainability: • Mosaic Materials (US) has created an innovative adsorbent material to capture CO2 emissions from the atmosphere. • Climate Blockchain Initiatives (Spain) enables businesses and consumers to offset their carbon footprint by investing in green projects that can be tracked using blockchain technology. Airport operations and logistics: • Whispr (Denmark) converts checklists and manuals into interactive audio guides to support employees on technical tasks while providing real time performance data to supervisors. • SynapseMX (US) enhances maintenance using artificial intelligence to streamline aircraft turnaround times during unscheduled maintenance works.
