PURPOSES OF THE SOCIETY Delta Mu Delta International Honor Society in Business has two primary purposes: to promote higher scholarship in business education, and to recognize and reward scholastic achievement of business students. HISTORY Delta Mu Delta was founded in 1913 at the School of Commerce by five professors educated at , New York University and . Faculty of the School of Commerce had considered organizing a society with structure and purpose similar to (N$6) for a number of years. These five professors, three of them N$6 members themselves, drew up the constitution of the Society and presented the proposal to the entire faculty, who unanimously approved the formation of Delta Mu Delta. Delta Mu Delta was incorporated in 1952 and admitted into membership in the Association of College Honor Societies (ACHS) in 1963. In 1992 the Society established an affiliation with the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP). Since that time, all new chapters may be formed only at schools whose business programs are accredited by ACBSP at the baccalaureate/graduate level. JOINING DELTA MU DELTA Students are invited to join Delta Mu Delta based on their academic achievement. Eligibility begins with the student’s class standing within the undergraduate, masters or doctoral degree program. The student invited is in the upper 20% of their class and must also meet minimum grade point average standards. The society minimums can be found on the website. Individual chapter minimum standards may be higher and the 20% rule also may result in higher grade point average standards. Membership in the Society is lifetime. Once inducted, you are a member and entitled to member benefits that include those on the obverse side of this publication. As new benefits become available, they will be featured on the Society site, as well as publicized in the Vision and on our social network sites. NETWORKING OPPORTUNITIES Delta Mu Delta members have the opportunity to network all over the world. DMD’s internet presence on social and business network sites offers the ability to communicate with other members and form special interest groups. Many Chapters provide networking opportunities for student and alumni members, working with each other and community and business leaders on service projects, as well as meeting with corporate leaders to discuss current business issues.
