From the Desk of the Consul-General
From the Desk of the Consul-General Consul-General Dr. Kazayuki Katayama September 2013-August 2015 The Consulate-General of Japan in Detroit Detroit, MI August 2015 From the Desk of Consul General of Japan in Detroit (Preface) I have served for nearly two years as the Consul General of Japan, in my jurisdiction of both Michigan and Ohio, from September, 2013 to August, 2015. I focused on the promotion of economics, politics, culture, public relations education and consular affairs, as well as the expansion of person-to-person exchanges in various areas between Japan and the 2 states. The consulate opened in 1993 and I am the 10th Consul General. During my term, I often visited local governments, companies, universities and colleges, Japanese weekend schools, branches of the Japan-America Society and the Japanese associations in various parts of the 2 states in order to foster the understanding of Japan’s policies, including its foreign policy, among the Americans here. I traveled to Ohio 66 times and Michigan (beyond Metro Detroit) 45 times. I visited universities/colleges 43 times, companies 24 times and Japanese weekend schools 14 times. I recited approximately 110 speeches and lecture and invited guests to my residence, to serve them Japanese food and Sake, about 200 times. My goals in participating in these activities were twofold. First, I aimed to convince Americans that Japan is a trustworthy and strong partner to the U.S. Second, I earnestly set out to provide quality services to local Japanese residence and portray the Consulate General as both conscientious and dependable. -

Book of Abstracts
Book of abstracts 11th International Conference “New Generation in Strongly Correlated Electron Systems” NGSCES-2021 June 7 – 10, 2021 [Online] Editors: Stefano Dal Conte (Politecnico di Milano) Denis Golez (Jozef Stefan Institute) Yaroslav Gerasimenko (Univ. of Regensburg) André Xuereb (University of Malta) 2021 New Generation in Strongly Correlated Electron Systems 2021 – June 7th to 10th Keynote talks 2 New Generation in Strongly Correlated Electron Systems 2021 – June 7th to 10th Parton picture of doped antiferromagnets: signatures in theory and experiment Fabian Grusdt1,2 1Department of Physics and Arnold Sommerfeld Center for Theoretical Physics (ASC), Ludwig- Maximilians-Universität München, Theresienstr. 37, München D-80333, Germany 2Munich Center for Quantum Science and Technology (MCQST), Schellingstr. 4, D-80799 München, Germany Recent experimental advances, both in solids as well as quantum simulators, allow unprecedented microscopic studies of the structure of strongly correlated quantum matter. In the Fermi-Hubbard model, believed to underlie high-Tc superconductivity, this allows to revisit a decades-old idea that strongly interacting electrons may fractionalize into partons — loosely speaking, the analogues of quarks in high- energy physics — called spinons and chargons. In this talk I will give an overview of recent theoretical and experimental results supporting this idea. A particular focus will be on dynamical signatures of parton formation, which also reveal their strong and non-local interactions. Moreover, I will discuss spectroscopic signatures of the parton picture, and how I envision quantum simulators will be able to probe the structure of emergent mesons in the near future. LETTER FROM THE CONCHAIR Hello and Welcome to Ohayocon 2010! Thank you for being here for Ohayocon’s ten year anniversary. I am excited and honored to be able to serve as it’s con chair for a second year. The staff have worked very hard in the hopes that you have a weekend you’ll never forget. There are some new events and some old favorites that we hope you will check out. The Fantasy Ball, Cosplay Gallery, the J-Walk, Jonathon Coulton’s concerts, the Masquerade, Coloring with Lindsey, Karaoke, game shows are just a few of the awesome things that we have planned for you this weekend. There are a few people, I would like to thank for keeping Ohayocon going all these years. Most importantly, a very special thank you to Melissa Phelps and Jeff Thompson. Without them Ohayocon would have ended along time ago. Sadly, we lost Jeff Thompson four years ago and we still miss him today. His spirit will always be with us. Gen Dalio, Dustin Phillips, Jonathon Brands, Robert DeJesus, Serge and Greg Ayres have shown their dedication to Ohayocon over the years standing by it’s side on good and bad days. They have never given up and always gone above and beyond the call of duty - and for that, they deserve a thank you too. I would also, like to thank all of the present and past staff, volunteers, dealers and attendees that have supported Ohayocon throughout the years. Thanks to all of Ohayocon’s past con chairs for laying the ground work on what has come to be a gret convention. -
