Most Internet scams promise huge fortunes in exchange for a small down payment up front. A Lake City woman on Monday received an email threaten- ing her life if she didn’t fol- low its instructions. The scammer said he had been hired to kill the woman but that if she sent him $5,000 he would show mercy on her and relent. The email said she shouldn’t notify authorities or he “might be pushed do what I have been paid to do.” The woman didn’t send the money and called the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office instead.
