Dear Travelers and Friends, This September, you are invited to join us to witness the jewels of antiquity across the shimmering Adriatic. With warm autumn breezes filling the billowing sails of the privately charteredSea Cloud II, travel to timeless towns and archaeological sites in Italy and . Savor a rare and exclusive inside look at the landmark achievements in art of the many cultures—from ancient Greeks and Romans to Byzantines and Venetians— who have made the Adriatic region their home. We will be joined by traveling scholars, including a classical archaeologist who is a curator of Greek and Roman art. Personal access to fascinating experts is one of the features of all the trips offered by the Museum Travel Alliance. Starting in the lustrous canals of Venice, journey to Ravenna, former capital of the Western Roman Empire, to admire the 5th- and 6th-century mosaics of its early Christian churches. Across the Adriatic in Croatia, call at Split to explore the ruins of Diocletian's 4th-century palace, and go behind the scenes of the art-filled home of Croatia's most prominent 20th-century sculptor. You may opt to explore nearby Trogir’s Renaissance and Baroque churches as well as attend a concert in a 15th-century estate not open to the public. In , which Lord Byron called ˮthe pearl of the Adriatic,ˮ a highlight will be an exclusive traditional music performance in a 16th- century palace. Cross the southern Adriatic back to Italy, and travel to the ancient Spartan town of Taranto, home to the exceptional National Archaeological Museum. In the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Alberobello, discover hundreds of dome-shaped limestone dwellings called trulli. Then, delight in a day at sea aboard Sea Cloud II, enjoying local delicacies and old favorites at a barbecue on deck. Call at Reggio Calabria, where you will behold the Riace Bronzes, ancient statues of Greek warriors found in the sea nearly 50 years ago. After cruising the Strait of Messina, conclude in Palermo, Sicily, where you can stroll amid its UNESCO-listed Arab-Norman architecture on an optional postlude. On previous Adriatic tours aboard Sea Cloud II, cabins filled quickly, and as we return to travel this fall, we expect cabins to fill quickly as well.
