FABULOUS MUSICALS are this autumn’s cinematic theme

Join us for a tremendous toe-tapping line-up of classic and modern musicals ranging from the 1930’s to the present! Watch for details of upcoming films.

Starting with Friday, October 17th at 7.30pm*

The Band Wagon (1953) Director: Staring: , , , 112 minutes

One of MGM’s most subtle and sophisticated musical come- dies, The Band Wagon stars Fred Astaire as Tony, a movie star whose career is in a downturn. Looking for a boost, To- ny decides to try starring in a Broadway musical written for him by old friends (Oscar Levant and Nanette Fabray). Things begin to get out of hand, when bigshot "artistic" di- rector/producer/star Jeffrey Cordova (British musical star ) joins the production and proclaims it a modernistic . He insists on hiring a prima ballerina (Cyd Charisse), to star opposite Tony, and it's hate at first sight. The show seems doomed by pretentiousness and the mismatch of stars, but romance and the famous ‘let’s put on a show’ attitude saves the day. After all, this is a musical comedy!
