Life & Career [ edit | edit source ] Ikeda was a philosophy major and a member of the Democratic Youth League of Japan. [2] She has written and illustrated many shōjo manga, many of which are based on historical events, such as the French Revolution or the Russian Revolution. Her use of foreign settings and androgynous themes made The Rose of Versailles and Orpheus no Mado enormous successes. [3] Her most famous manga is The Rose of Versailles also known as Lady Oscar in Europe. This manga, loosely based on the French Revolution, has been made into several Takarazuka musicals and into an anime series and a live-action film. After Rose of Versailles concluded, Ikeda wrote articles for Asahi Shimbun. In the 2000s Ikeda studied at a music school and became a singer. Her voice is in the soprano range. [4] She made a comeback to the comic industry as a scenarist in 1999. Her recent manga includes Der Ring des Nibelungen . It is a manga version of the opera written by Richard Wagner. In 2008, she received France's Ordre national de la Légion d'honneur for her contribution to Japan's cultural awareness of France, [5] and she has been a guest of the 2011 Angoulême International Comics Festival. [4] Lazy and Beautiful. what i like, what to do, what's happenin… Ladies.. Prince Charming dari Komik is REAL!! Rambut ikal yay! Jendela Orpheus. Asyik! hari jumat paket pesanan saya datang! 1 set komik Jendela Orpheus 1-18! jadi terharu akhirnya setelah Rose Of Versailles, i have another Riyoko Ikeda’s masterpiece! beliau merupakan Top 5 mangaka favorit saya! (Riyoko Ikeda, Kyoko Ariyoshi, Saito Chiho, George Asakura, Yumiko Oshima) jendela Orpheus, 1-18 yay! Such a beutiful art! i really enjoy the drawing so much! all the pretty dresses, all the beautiful royal ladies and gentelman, gosh! makes me want to live in 19 -20 era! saya merupakan penggemar berat grand/royal ladies sejak baca komik – komik Jepang tahun 70-80an yang dipioneri Rose Of Versailles. ;'( maaf terbawa emosi! — yah tapi kalau terlalu happy ending juga sebenernya kurang seru sih, ga ada perasaan menggigitnya!! i know Mrs. Ikeda.. I know!! (ngambek)—- padahal imajinasi yang lebih ekstrim lagi si Julius diajak kawin lari ama jendral Yuspov yang tiba – tiba gak jadi mati haha.. *O* that would be moree heart pumping alias saya yang bakal kesenengan sendiri.. (maaf tiba – tiba jadi sinetron banget)!!— Yuspov, Klaus, Issac, pilih yang mana ya? Kalau melihat Julius kita pasti bakal langsung inget sama Oscar di Rose Of Versailles, karena mereka sama – sama memiliki rambut emas yang indah dan ceritanya kalau lihat wajahnya orang – orang bakal langsung teringat akan Aphrodite (dewi kecantikan Yunani) jadi kebayang kan cantiknya kayak gimana, bicara soal Julius, saya jadi ngebayangin, bakal kayak gimana ya kalau dia benar – benar ada, soalnya saya penyuka “cowok cantik”, dan segala sesuatu yang androgini, Julius ini pasti keren banget, dan lagi semua tokoh – tokoh Riyoko Ikeda ini cantik – cantik semua, saya selalu membayangkan bagaimana ya kalau tokoh – tokoh ini jadi nyata? ohmygosh.. *tiba tiba jadi deg-degan ngebayangin Issac beneran ada dan lagi main piano* Hm.. okay, kalau mau mainin imajnasi (lagi),, saya punya 2 kandidat yang kalau lihat wajahnya saya bisa langsung inget gambar2 Riyoko Ikeda, (emang hobi saya menghayalin siapa yang cocok jadi pemeran utama komik), pertama si Florence and the machine yang punya muka klasik banget, pucat ala wanita wanita abad pertengahan, kalau biasanya wanita abad petengahan itu kan curvy2, tapi karena gambar – gambar Riyoko cenderung kurus dan tipis2, kebetulan si florence ini juga kurus, jadi imagenya pas banget!! Florence & The machine. Daria werbowy as Julius? Bjorn andersen, Inspiraion for Julius? komik Kaze To Ki No Uta. Gilbert dalam komik Kaze To Ki No Uta, terisnpirasi dari Bjorn Andersen. (kata orangtua saya setiap

  • Adaptation and Narrative Structure in the Orpheus Myth Ryan Cadrette
Tracing Eurydice: Adaptation and Narrative Structure in the Orpheus Myth Ryan Cadrette Master’s Thesis in The Department of Communication Studies Presented in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree of Master of Arts (Media Studies) at Concordia University Montreal, Quebec, Canada August 2013 © Ryan Cadrette, 2013 iii Abstract Tracing Eurydice: Adaptation and Narrative Structure in the Orpheus Myth Ryan Cadrette The primary purpose of this thesis is to postulate a working method of critical inquiry into the processes of narrative adaptation by examining the consistencies and ruptures of a story as it moves across representational form. In order to accomplish this, I will draw upon the method of structuralist textual analysis employed by Roland Barthes in his essay S/Z to produce a comparative study of three versions of the Orpheus myth from Ovid’s Metamorphoses. By reviewing the five codes of meaning described by Barthes in S/Z through the lens of contemporary adaptation theory, I hope to discern a structural basis for the persistence of adapted narrative. By applying these theories to texts in a variety of different media, I will also assess the limitations of Barthes’ methodology, evaluating its utility as a critical tool for post-literary narrative forms. iv Acknowledgments I would like to thank my advisor, Peter van Wyck, for his reassurance that earlier drafts of this thesis were not necessarily indicative of insanity, and, hopefully, for his forgiveness of my failure to incorporate all of his particularly insightful feedback. I would also like to thank Matt Soar and Darren Wershler for agreeing to actually read the peculiar monstrosity I have assembled here.

  • Here Comes the Sun Julie Brannan President, All Souls Board of Trustees Lay Sunday, January 26, 2020
Here Comes the Sun Julie Brannan President, All Souls Board of Trustees Lay Sunday, January 26, 2020 I enjoyed planning the Lay Sunday service so much last year, that when I realized I would be doing it again this year, it led to some concern – what could I plan that could be even close to that much fun? Then I remembered: we will be in the gorgeously restored sanctuary by then! (This was back in the far, far, distant past – last spring, perhaps. And although it is now hard to remember these days, there was an expectation, at least among those as fundamentally optimistic as I am, that we would be opening the sanctuary on Christmas Eve. To be clear, LAST Christmas Eve, 2019.) As I imagined standing up on the chancel, I could just see it - light streaming in through the magnificent double-paned, energy efficient, art glass windows, reflecting on the fresh paint, the buffed pews, the new unscuffed floor. I could practically see the sunlight creating faux halos around the trustees, the Building Advisory Task Force, Galen, and everyone who gave to the capital campaign. It all became clear – I would select hymns and work with Alejandro to create music all about light, sunshine, morning, new beginnings. It was a beautiful, wonderful fantasy. But here we are. We are so close to being back in the sanctuary again, sooo close – but we are definitely still here. There were actually very few months in which even an optimist like myself really believed we would be back in the sanctuary by now, so I had plenty of time to take another course of action and abandon my vision of light.

It is understood that copying or publication of this thesis for financial gain shall not be allowed without my written permission. Department The University of British Columbia Vancouver, Canada Date Htk NoJ 2o»l DE-6 (2/88) Abstract The main purpose of this thesis is to examine how today's sunjong manhwa (Korean girls' comic) writers are striving to free their works from the influence of shojo manga (Japanese girls' comic) that was predominant in the sunjong manhwa of the last few decades. The concept of the girls' comic is presumed to originate in Japan. To go over this issue specifically I have chosen to talk about the works of three Korean sunjong manhwa writers who are especially popular among today's readers. Before exploring the works of these three writers, the first two chapters address the history of the relationship between Japanese comics and Korean comics in general and the history of relationship between Japanese girls' comics and Korean girls' comics in particular.

SARAH RUHL Sarah Ruhl was born in Wilmette, near Chicago, Illinois in 1974. Her mother, an actress, introduced her as a child to the theatre and she joined the local Piven Theater workshop where she trained as an actor but soon realised that “it didn’t fit for me. I didn’t like being watched”. Having written short stories and poetry from a very young age, Ruhl enrolled at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, a member of the Ivy League1, to study creative writing with the aim of becoming a teacher or poet. In 1994 (when Ruhl was 20), her father died of bone cancer and the themes of death and mortality have featured heavily in her subsequent work. Her first collection of poetry, Death in Another Country, was published shortly after her father’s death, but Ruhl began to focus more heavily on writing plays as a therapeutic method of dealing with her loss: “There seemed to be no cultural outlet to deal with that except therapy..
