Administration of Barack Obama, 2016 Remarks at the Kennedy Center
Administration of Barack Obama, 2016 Remarks at the Kennedy Center Honors Reception December 4, 2016 The President. Well, good evening, everybody. Audience members. Good evening! The President. On behalf of Michelle and myself, welcome to the White House. Over the past 8 years, this has always been one of our favorite nights. And this year, I was especially looking forward to seeing how Joe Walsh cleans up. [Laughter] Pretty good. [Laughter] I want to begin by once again thanking everybody who makes this wonderful evening possible, including David Rubenstein, the Kennedy Center Trustees—I'm getting a big echo back there—and the Kennedy Center President, Deborah Rutter. Give them a big round of applause. We have some outstanding Members of Congress here tonight. And we are honored also to have Vicki Kennedy and three of President Kennedy's grandchildren with us here: Rose, Tatiana, and Jack. [Applause] Hey! So the arts have always been part of life at the White House because the arts are always central to American life. And that's why, over the past 8 years, Michelle and I have invited some of the best writers and musicians, actors, dancers to share their gifts with the American people, and to help tell the story of who we are, and to inspire what's best in all of us. Along the way, we've enjoyed some unbelievable performances. This is one of the perks of the job that I will miss. [Laughter] Thanks to Michelle's efforts, we've brought the arts to more young people, from hosting workshops where they learn firsthand from accomplished artists, to bringing "Hamilton" to students who wouldn't normally get a ticket to Broadway. -

Roger Petersen Chair, Graduate Program Committee The Golden Lariat: Explaining American Aid to Israel by Richard Kraus Submitted to the Department of Political Science on September 14, 2009 in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree of Master of Science in Political Science ABSTRACT An observational study was conducted to determine the most likely explanation of American support for Israel. Several extant hypotheses were considered, most particularly, and at greatest length, that of a pro-Israel domestic lobby in the United States, but also that it had to do with Cold War containment, common values, or precedent. It was ultimately concluded that the domestic lobby hypothesis could not account for American support, since the level of that support correlated negatively with the resources of the lobby, and because sudden, temporary changes in the level of American support did not coincide with any similar changes in the resources of the lobby. -
An Uncommon Woman: Alison Snow Jones Unleashed!
AN UNCOMMON WOMAN: ALISON SNOW JONES UNLEASHED! By Nancy E. Epstein, Lauren J. Bruce, David Pinney, and Meredith Jones Frost The Way It Is There’s a thread you follow. It goes among things that change. But it doesn’t change. People wonder about what you are pursuing. You have to explain about the thread. But it is hard for others to see. While you hold it you can’t get lost. Tragedies happen; people get hurt or die; and you suffer and get old. Nothing you do can stop time’s unfolding. You don’t ever let go of the thread. -William Stafford Alison was like a diamond; truly unique in her brilliant multi-faceted array of talents, brains, passions and skills. Everyone who participated in developing this memorial book commented first on her brilliance. She was a scholar, a top notch statistician, an innovative researcher, a popular blogger about economics and ethics, an exceedingly competent horsewoman and boater, a tremendous cook and baker, someone who loved a good time with others and always a fighter for justice. She was extremely smart, able to form very complex, deep ideas and had an uncommon ability to communicate them easily and effectively to others, including the public. Who was Alison, and what were the threads that ran through her life - through her worlds of academia, research, teaching, blogging, boating, dealing with cancer and her life, overall? She was passionate, she was competitive, she was funny, she loved being outdoors, she was devoted to a healthy work-life balance, and she loved her family and friends. -

Against this war-soaked cultural backdrop, the sheet music industry echoed the pervasive messages of the CPI, often using images of women to appeal to the American people. Connections between sheet music and CPI poster themes reflect the cultural dominance of war messages, and themes from various CPI-sponsored materials recur as motifs in the era’s sheet music. The sheet music covers, lyrics, and musical cues reinforced prototypical roles for women during the war (from angelic nurses to flirtatious tomboy recruits) as established in the poster art, revealing a gendered cultural code. By purchasing sheet music and carrying it into their homes, American citizens literally bought into the war propaganda, heeding the siren call of the female imagery in CPI advertising to invest materially and emotionally in the war effort. Analysis of cover art, titles, lyrics, and musical examples highlights the use of archetypal images of women from poster and advertising traditions, suggesting that the sheet music industry was an unofficial partner of the CPI. -

Member of Committee TO JANE Digitized by the Internet Archive in 2016 https://archive.org/details/1966marylandgube00hatf INTRODUCTION It is hypothesized that the salient open occupancy issue accounted for much of the variance in electoral preference in the 1966 Maryland Guber- natorial Election. We propose to validate this assertion by (1) establishing the existence of definite attitudes on integrated housing and political representation of such attitudes (2) verbal and quantitative analysis of candidates' campaigns and voter support in the primary and general elec- tion, and (3) analysis of the place occupied by the open occupancy issue in the campaign and the degree to which it determined electoral preference in this election. -

Examining the Stages of Relationships IN A N UTSHELL In modern theatre, we have found evidence of all stages of relationships except for the last, true love stage called “Agape Through a Theatrical Lens Love.” The lack of representation of this stage in our media may be both a cause and effect for our increasing divorce COMBINING PSYCHOLOGY AND THEATRE ARTS THROUGH SCRIPT ANALYSIS rate and lack of satisfaction among couples today. Recensie: Beyonce in Het Sportpaleis****1/2
