Corel Draw

General Description: - this course is intended to provide basic and advanced skills in designing graphics in CorelDraw.

Aims: - The aims of this course are: -

1. To drill the trainee on the basic operations in Corel draw 2. To avail the trainee with the knowledge of Corel draw’s workspace and how to create are. 3. To drill the trainee on skills needed to create logo and banner. 4. To drill the trainee on skills needed to create layout. 5. To drill the trainee on recording and using macro in drawings. 6. To drill the trainee on how to work with tables & calendar in Corel draw. 7. To drill the trainee on how to export drawings into other formats. 8. To avail the trainee with knowledge about the other Corel family members. Objectives: - The trainee at the end of the training session should be able to:

 Use CorelDraw to do basic drawings.  Create workspace in CorelDraw  Create logo and banners in CorelDraw  Create layouts in CorelDraw  Use macro to record drawings and play them at any time.

 Create tables and calendars in CorelDraw  Export drawing into , and format.  Use Corel capture to capture objects. Target Audience: - This course should be taken by computer graphics, desk publishers, artists, and anyone interested in graphics.

Pre-requisite: - windows and getting started with computer and the Internet are pre-requisites. Design and drawing skills are added advantages.

Approximate Duration: - This course requires 21 hours of class sessions with practical.

Method of Assessment: - The trainee is to be assessed with graphical design project.

Methodology: - The class takes a lesson discusses it, go on to conduct its practical, then a graphical design assignment is given to trainee. The assignment is checked and corrected and the class moves to the next lesson until all the lessons are covered.

Recommended Resource Materials: - the following materials are recommended for further study;

Day Lesson

1. Getting started: - Brief history of CorelDraw, launching the package,

difference b/w suite & Integrated package, welcoming screen; New graphic, open last edited, open graphic, template, Corel tutor, what’s New.

Tool bars; - menu bar, status bas bar, standard, property, toolbox, text, Internet, etc. tools on the tool box; Identifying the tool, how to use tool, tool’s shortcut.

Colour palette; launching colour & others. Adding colour in the palette editor.

2. Creating graphics: - Inserting pages, naming pages, navigating pages, page set-up, creating text, converting to artistic text, writing tools; thesaurus, spell check, Grammatik, quick correct, language setting.

File Mgt: - saving graphics, back-up, opening graphics, publish as PDF, New from template, Import, Acquiring Image from scanner, print set-up, printing, mirror Image, printing using colour separation, Hexachrome, plates, empty plates, inverting paper/film settings, mirror paper/settings, checking issues & adjusting setting issues.

4. Workspace: - objectives of the workspace, tools that will be employed; tool bar, tool box, property bar, flyouts, docker windows & palettes, mouse commands, help, drawing of the text ‘Gwani Software’ use text tool to create, use edit text properties.

5. Workspace cont: - spraying bubbles on object. Using flyout to draw curved lines. Curve using poly line tool. Using a docker to edit object properties.

6. Creating workspace: - Creating workspace, setting it as a client workspace. Restoring default workspace.

7. Creating a logo: - The office shop log. Creating background, creating decorative circles, adding colour, creating the outer square & inner square, adding colour to the square, rotating the square, importing a banner, adding text and creating curved path.

8. Creating layout: - creating background, adding colour, importing Image, rotating Image, adding artistic text, creating frame for text, importing paragraph text, and importing logo.

9. Macro: - recording macro, stopping macro, pausing macro, playing macro, editing macro.

10. The flying flag: - creating flag from rectangle, adding colour to the rectangle, creating mast, colouring mast, round edge creation of mast, flying effect to the flag.

11. Working with tables: - creating table from graph paper, inserting column headings, inserting Items in cells, order of objects and grouping.

12. Design of a calendar: - Importing Image, Inserting heading text, creating month’s table using graph paper. Adding colours.

13. Exporting: - reasons, for exporting, steps for exporting, exporting format; CMX, EPS, WMF, EMF, SWF, DWG, TTF, CPT, JPEG, BMP, TIF, MAC,

PNG; DOC & WSD.

14. Fonts: - definition, setting, font matching options, substituting an unavailable fonts, building list, of exceptions to font substitution, matching more windows & more fonts, embedded fonts in a file.

15. Creating DDF: - saving as PDF, creating PDF style, editing PDF style, including hyperlinks, compressing, PDF, converting TTF to font 1, specifying the encoding format.

16. Tour of Corel graphics suites: - Introduction to launching of package & exploring tool bars of Corel capture and Corel photo paint.

17. Tour of Corel graphics suites: - Introduction to launching of package & exploring tool bars of Corel R.A.V.E and Corel trace.

18. Installation of Corel graphics suite, Both typical & full Installation.
