The chimney was erected in 1873 as an addition to the earlier Furnaces built in 1827 by the Botfields,a well known ironmaking family. It is constructed of Randlay bricks and rises to a height of 205 feet. Square on plan (6x6in) has vertical faces for the first 7.5 metres and then after a step the walls taper inwards slightly to the top. Small opening exists at the base of the western elevation. Adjacent are the visible remains of a tunnel which connected the chimney to the furnaces. The remaining part of the furnaces lies approx 30- Chimney And Remains Of 40 metres to the north-west of the chimney and consists of an extensive 13.2m high wall, Telford Town C Town Park Stirchley Furnaces built into the side of the escarpment.
