To take the photos, I just need five I started about 20 years ago with a cheap “minutes of the artist’s time and a Lomo camera, a plastic camera with a plastic sturdy table. I bring a flash, a white lens. You get awful photos with it, but they background, and of course my are live. I dug deeper and deeper; and eight Leica Monochrom camera. With years or so ago, I started doing digital each artist I discuss how he wants photography . but my heart beats analog! to present his hands in a way that So finally, I ended up with a Monochrome reflects his instrument and his camera, and this is what I do. I try to be as unique playing style. Then we take analog as possible in my pictures. two or three pictures and that’s it. ” That’s really nice. I know that your camera itself is a really difficult camera to even use. I had a knock-off version, a Fuji, a Marc Mennigmann Photographer , Musician couple of years back, and it was hard as The Hands Project heck to use. And the photos are absolutely gorgeous—just the intense depth of the pictures themselves, you really capture your subject. Now I know at this particular Warwick event, you have been photographing a lot of famous hands. Yes, this is my project. It’s about musicians’ hands: the part of the body of these famous musicians who actually create the tone, make the note, or play the beat. This is the last instance of the body that is performing the note you are hearing as an audience. For me this is the most important part of the musician, not in terms of creativity, but in terms of doing the music. It’s really funny because no matter what musician I ask about photographing his hand, when I tell them the concept, they immediately say, “Yes! This man understands what I am doing and what this is all about.” Because everything comes from the hands. “HANDS” BY MARC MENNIGMANN THERE’S TRUTH IN BLACK & WHITE Interviewed by Kaylene Peoples | Responses by Marc Mennigmann Photographer Marc Mennigmann from Isalon, Germany, documents in the rare medium of black and white film. He uses a Leica Mononchrom, which is not only a complex camera, but is known for its rich optics that cater to alternative mediums in photography. Mennigman chooses to spend his time capturing his subjects in their rawest form, bringing out their essence and exposing a vintage grittiness only seen in rare instances today with the explosion of digital color photography. A purist in the deepest sense, he has started a project called HANDS. Marc has spent hours photographing the hands of famous musicians around the world, and the simplicity of a black and white photograph does his subjects the most justice. Marc Mennigmann photograghing (L)Pianist Adam Holzman and (R)Richie Kotzen 92 AGENDA / October 2017 agendamag.com 93 AGENDA / October 2017 Wow, that’s very deep. What are some of the other things you do as a photographer? How did you develop your style? What were some of your 208 HANDS & COUNTING influences? THIS IS A CURRENT LIST OF The influences . this is a hard thing because I don’t care about what others do. I only see what pictures I like. And there’s a lot of concept PARTICIPANTS OF THE HANDS PROJECT photography, for example, that I do by myself. I see pictures that I like, and from there I try to pinpoint what it is I like from that particular photo I am observing. And this influences my work. So it’s not an artist Organ that influences my work, but the result is art that is influencing my work. Pat Bianchi, Dan Hemmer This is the same in music. So if you’re listening to music, I think you Accordion shouldn’t try to imitate the artist because you’ll never be the artist—it Lydie Auvray would be boring because we don’t need two of the same artists. You should try to find out what is fascinating you about the music of that artist, and Chapman Stick Jim Lampi, Youenn Landreau try to involve this into your music, creating your own style. It’s the same thing. So photography and music are pretty much similar. • STICK MEN - Tony Levin and Pat MasteloO, the Powerhouse Bass and Drums of the Group King Crimson for a Few Decades, Bring That TradiOn to All Their Playing
STICK MEN - Tony Levin and Pat Masteloo, the powerhouse bass and drums of the group King Crimson for a few decades, bring that tradion to all their playing. Levin plays the Chapman Sck, from which the band takes it’s name. Having bass and guitar strings, the Chapman Sck funcons at mes like two instruments. Markus Reuter plays his selfdesigned touch style guitar – again covering much more ground than a guitar or a bass. And Masteloo’s drumming encompasses not just the acousc kit, but a unique electronic setup too, allowing him to add loops, samples, percussion and more. TONY LEVIN - Born in Boston, Tony Levin started out in classical music, playing bass in the Rochester Philharmonic. Then moving into jazz and rock, he has had a notable career, recording and touring with John Lennon, Pink Floyd, Yes, Alice Cooper, Gary Burton, Buddy Rich and many more. He has also released 5 solo CDs and three books. In addion to touring with Sck Men, since more than 30 years is currently a member of King Crimson and Peter Gabriel Band, and jazz bands Levin Brothers and L’Image. His popular website, tonylevin.com, featured one of the web’s first blogs, and has over 4 million visits. PAT MASTELOTTO - Very rarely does a drummer go on to forge the most successful career on the demise of their former hit band. Phil Collins and Dave Grohl have managed it, so too has Pat Masteloo, a self taught drummer from Northern California, who has also been involved with pushing the envelope of electronic drumming.

  • Nana Visitor/Chase Masterson Interviews JARRAH
Episode 14: Nana Visitor/Chase Masterson Interviews JARRAH: Hi and welcome to Women At Warp. Join us as our crew of four women Star Trek fans boldly go on our biweekly mission to explore our favorite franchise. My name's Jarrah and thanks for tuning in. Today we have with us the rest of our crew. Sue SUE: Hi everybody JARRAH: Andi. ANDI: Hey everyone. JARRAH: And Grace. GRACE: Hey y'all. JARRAH: And before we get started into the main bulk of our show, which is interviews that I did at Star Trek Las Vegas with Chase Masterson and Nana Visitor from Deep Space Nine, we wanted to take a minute to pay tribute to a awesome Star Trek guest star that passed away recently: Yvonne Craig. So Andi, do you want to start with that? ANDI: Sure. I mean, I know a lot of people know her from Batgirl. I sadly never got to see her as Batgirl and wasn't really familiar with her from that. So my first experience with her as an actress was from Whom Gods Destroy, which is a third season Star Trek the original series episode. And I think it's a really cool episode. And the main reason I like it is because of her character Marta, who is awesome, and funny, and dangerous, and just really really cool. I mean she dances, and she stabs Kirk, and she quotes Shakespeare but pretends she wrote it. I mean how do you get such a cool character all in one place like that? It was really awesome and that's one of my favorite characters they ever did.

  • Pressive and Photographs So Beautifully, He Is Extremely Strong in This Role,” Comments Masterson
“YESTERDAY WAS A LIE” PRODUCTION INFORMATION A groundbreaking new noir film, YESTERDAY WAS A LIE is a “soulful and thought- provoking metaphysical journey” (Talking Pictures). Award-winning writer/director James Kerwin -- “one of these young guys on the edge of a digital revolution” (Soundwaves Cinema) -- crafts a thrilling, intricate detective drama that teases the boundaries of reality. Kipleigh Brown “exudes Bacall” (Slice of SciFi) as Hoyle, a girl with a sharp mind and a weak- ness for bourbon who finds herself on the trail of a reclusive genius (John Newton). But her work takes a series of unforeseen twists as events around her grow increasingly fragmented... discon- nected... surreal. With a sexy lounge singer (Chase Masterson) and a loyal partner (Mik Scriba) as her only allies, Hoyle is plunged into a dark world of intrigue and earth-shattering cosmological secrets. Haunted by an ever-present shadow (Peter Mayhew) whom she is destined to face, Hoyle discovers that the most powerful force in the universe -- the power to bend reality, the power to know the truth -- lies within the depths of the human heart. “Like Blade Runner before it, YESTERDAY WAS A LIE manages to meld film noir and science fiction into a fresh new world unlike anything we’ve seen be- fore” (iF Magazine). Also starring Nathan Mobley, Warren Davis, Megan Henning, Jennifer Slimko, and famed ra- dio personality Robert Siegel. 2 ABOUT THE PRODUCTION YESTERDAY WAS A LIE is the brainchild of writer/director James Kerwin, who made a splash in 2000 with his multi-festival-award-winning short film Midsummer.
