Brussels, 30/07/2021 Ms. Ursula Von Der Leyen President of the European Commission Sent via email to: [email protected] Mr. Josep Borrell Vice President of the European Commission/High Representative Sent via email to: [email protected] To the President of the Commission Ursula Von Der Leyen, To the Vice President of the Commission/High Representative Josep Borrell, We, undersigned members of the European Parliament, are writing you to bring your attention to the alarming human rights and humanitarian situation in Jammu and Kashmir. The miseries of the people of Jammu and Kashmir have been amply documented in the International Human Rights Watch World Report 2021 as well as the reports of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights in 2018 and 2019. This Indian-administered region had already suffered a debilitating lockdown since the revocation of its special status in 2019, and the restraints on the rights to movement, access to information, health care, education as well as free speech have been intensified by the Covid-19 pandemic. Journalists and human rights defenders have been increasingly targeted for raising their voice in support of the Kashmiri people and denounce their situation. Arbitrary detentions continue, public assembly is still prohibited under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure 1973 (CrPC) and hundreds, including minors and several elected legislators of Jammu and Kashmir, remain under preventive detention. Unfortunately, a number of legislations introduced by the Indian governments over the years to prevent terrorism and separatism, including the Special Powers Act (SPA), the Armed Forces Special Protection Act (AFSPA) and the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA), have been often misused against the Kashmiri population. -
Nautical Products in the Single Market Under COVID-19 Brussels, April
Nautical products in the Single Market under COVID-19 Brussels, April 28th 2020 To the attention of the Commissioner for the Internal Market, Mr. Thierry Breton, Dear Commissioner, The current internal EU border closures are producing widespread negative effects on the nautical sector and on the delivery of its products. The sector employs 280.000 workers across the EU and 95% of its companies are SMEs, supporting local jobs. It is therefore essential that these companies continue to deliver to customers. Maintaining production is capital for the liquidity of manufacturers and all companies along the supply chain, which supports jobs in an industry that is already severely affected by COVID-19. Any negative impact will be particularly felt in coastal and peripheral regions, islands, and along inland waterways where companies from the sector are primarily located. As this sector has a strong seasonal nature, it is essential that it is supported at EU and national level. One of the most severe limitation for nautical companies nowadays concerns the means of delivery of the final products. Several Member States have obliged companies to use lorries for deliveries as a reaction to the COVID-19 outbreak, but it should be noted that recreational boats cannot always be transported by lorry. We therefore urge you to protect the Single Market, the liquidity of its enterprises and jobs by clarifying that delivery of nautical products should be possible by whichever means suitable. This should include delivery of boats directly by sea, lorry, trailer, and collection by the customer, avoiding any excessive measures or additional burden. -

October 21, 2020 President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi Arab Republic of Egypt Cairo, Egypt Dear President Abdel Fattah El Sisi: We write this letter to express our grave concern about the continued detention of prisoners of conscience in Egypt. Particularly at a time of aggravated health risks due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we urge you to prioritize the human rights of detainees and immediately release those unjustly detained. Despite these risks, we note the continued detention of a number of human rights defenders, lawyers, political activists, and other prisoners of conscience in Egypt. Among these we note the continued pre-trial detention of political activist Ramy Shaath, who has been held for more than a year without charge. We note the continued detention of activist Alaa Abdel Fattah, whose sister Sanaa Seif was detained while she and her family attempted to make a complaint to the Public Prosecution about an assault they suffered in front of Tora prison. We also note the continued detention of human rights lawyers Mohamed el Baqer, Zyad el Elaimy, Mahienour el Massry, Haitham Mohamedeen and Ibrahim Metwally, researchers Patrick Zaki and Ibrahim Ezz el-din, and journalists Esraa Abdelfattah, Solafa Magdy, Hossam al-Sayyad and Mahmoud Hussein. We note that these are but a few of the many prisoners of conscience held in Egyptian prison at risk to their lives. We recall the preventable deaths this year of musician Shady Habash and US citizen Mustafa Kassem, both as a result of medical negligence while in detention. A joint statement issued by the World Health Organization, the UNODC, the OHCHR, and UNAIDS issued in May called for releases in order to mitigate overcrowding in prisons, and an April OHCHR press briefing reiterated this call to Egypt directly. -

Movimento 5 Stelle, La Lista Definitiva Per Le Europee Nella Circoscrizione Meridionale
La lista:Chiara Maria Gemma, Piernicola Pedicini, Laura Ferrara, Isabella Adinolfi, Rosa D’Amato, Michela Rescigno, Gianluca Ranieri, Mario Furore, Mariano Peluso, Enrico Farina, Vito Avallone, Alberto Claudio De Giglio, Danilo Della Valle, Franca Pulpito, Luigi Napolitano, Antimina Di Matteo, Valeria Di Nino, Stefania Gentile. -
Urgent Call to the Heads of State and Government of the EU Member States the Ministers of Finance the Ministers of Culture
Brussels, 12.03.2021 Urgent Call to The Heads of State and Government of the EU Member States The Ministers of Finance The Ministers of Culture Subject: Urgent Call to the Governments of the EU Member States to dedicate at least 2% of the RRF for the Cultural and Creative Sectors In continuation to the letter that we have sent to you at the end of December 2020, signed by 104 MEPs, regarding the European Cultural Recovery, Given that the pandemic has disproportionally and heavily impacted the Cultural and Creative Sectors (CCS) with up to 98% decrease of the turnover for the performing arts and 95% for the book-sales; whereas less than 2% of the European cinemas remained open in between the lockdowns, most European museums remained closed and there was a 76% decline in music audiences1, Whereas even before the COVID-19 outbreak the CCS were a fragile and fragmented ecosystem characterized by irregular employment and precarious working conditions, difficult access to finance and imbalanced translation of market value into fair remuneration, While the CCS are among the last sectors to recover due to both direct and indirect impact of the pandemic, Given the new extra corona-costs that the CCS will have to bear in the post-COVID-19 era, due to the costs-related with corona-proof processes, uncertainty and insecurity of the audience for indoor public cultural activities, Whereas the CCS have the highest numbers in youth employment, are highly gender balanced and represent a high percentage of our SMEs, Whereas the CCS support social cohesion -

Andrea OSTELLARI Italian Senate, Chair of the Justice Committee Cc
Andrea OSTELLARI Italian Senate, Chair of the Justice Committee Cc: Maria Elisabetta ALBERTI CASELLATI Members of the Justice Committee Italian Senate, President Italian Senate Brussels, 20 April 2021 Subject: Urgency in putting the bill on measures to prevent violence and discrimination to a vote in the Justice Committee of the Italian Senate Dear Justice Committee Chair, Andrea Ostellari, As Members of the LGBTI Intergroup in the European Parliament, we write to you with concern over the delay in putting to a vote the bill on measures to prevent violence and discrimination on the grounds of sex, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity and disability. We believe that the lack of a swift procedure on behalf of the Senate’s Justice Committee has unduly delayed the adoption of a law which will substantially contribute to the protection of vulnerable groups in Italy, in particular of LGBT persons, in alignment with European values and the work programme of the European Commission. On 4 November 2020, the lower house of the Italian Parliament overwhelmingly approved the before-mentioned bill. The fundamental part of the bill, drafted by Alessandro Zan (PD), lies on the modification of article 604 bis and ter of the Penal Code, which currently punishes with imprisonment of up to six years the crimes of propaganda and incitement to commit racial, ethnic and religious discrimination. The addition would ensure that discriminatory acts based "on sex, gender, sexual orientation or gender identity and disability” would also be contemplated, providing for sentences of up to four years in prison. The sentence may also be commuted even partially in work of public utility to be carried out also by associations for the protection of victims. -
