CREATING A LEGACY. INVESTED IN FAITH. FY 2016 ANNUAL REPORT Over the last year, Catholics across Indiana and around the world have celebrated the Jubilee Year of Mercy. We celebrated by worshiping together and committing works of mercy in an effort to be “merciful like the Father.” Throughout the year, Pope Francis encouraged us to live out our faith in extraordinary ways. Through the generous contributions and gifts to the Catholic Community Foundation, Inc., we have been able to provide long-term, financial stability for the charitable, religious and educational programs and agencies within the Archdiocese of Indianapolis. It is the goal of the Catholic Community Foundation to translate the charitable passions of our contributors into action for the service of Catholic ministries in central and southern Indiana. With your gifts, designated ministries perform works of mercy every day. The Foundation has helped set up more than 450 funds in the legacy planning process for people throughout the archdiocese. There are a variety of ways to contribute through planned giving: including a bequest provision in a will, naming Catholic Charities or a ministry of your choosing as a beneficiary of a retirement plan or life insurance policy, establishing an endowment as a permanent fund to honor a loved one or benefit ministry, or a one-time gift of specific assets that continues in perpetuity. Funds entrusted to the Foundation are provided to ministries with the wishes of the original donor or for purposes determined by the applying ministry. The Catholic Community Foundation is committed to being an exceptional steward of the assets with which it is entrusted and will continue to help others plan a merciful legacy of giving. “Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.” – Matthew 5:7 TABLE OF CONTENTS Letter to the Community 2 Foundation Funds 3-32 Archdiocesan Endowment Funds . 3. I cannot express my gratitude enough for all that you, the people of the Archdiocese of Indianapolis, have done to support the ministries of the Church throughout central and southern Indiana by contributing to these endowments and remembering the Church in your legacy planning. In 2016, the Catholic Church celebrated the Jubilee Year of Mercy. In announcing this special jubilee, Pope Francis reminded us that, “We cannot escape the Lord’s words to us, and they will serve as the criteria upon which we will be judged: whether we have fed the hungry and given drink to the thirsty, welcomed the stranger and clothed the naked, or spent time with the sick and those in prison (cf. Mt 25:31-45). Moreover, we will be asked if we have helped others to escape the doubt that causes them to fall into despair and which is often a source of loneliness; if we have helped to overcome the ignorance in which millions of people live, especially children deprived of the necessary means to free them from the bonds of poverty; if we have been close to the lonely and afflicted; if we have forgiven those who have offended us and have rejected all forms of anger and hate that lead to violence; if we have had the kind of patience God shows, who is so patient with us; and if we have commended our brothers and sisters to the Lord in prayer.” (Misericordiae Vultus, 15) By being faithful stewards of the Catholic Community Foundation you have been bearers of God’s mercy. The endowments listed in this year’s annual report support everything from caring for the least of those among us, educating children and adults in the faith, supporting our priests and seminarians and keeping our parishes and schools vibrant. In this report you will find more information about the 466 funds of the Catholic Community Foundation. The Foundation’s net assets are more than $161 million as of the fiscal year that ended June 30, 2016. More than $7.5 million was distributed to parishes, schools, cemeteries, and Catholic agencies over the past year. Since its inception in 1987, the Catholic Community Foundation has dispensed more than $105.5 million from endowments for ministry. Please pray for me in my new assignment as the Archbishop of Newark and know that you will remain in my prayers. We will remain united in the communion of the saints as well as in the breaking of the bread. Your brother in Christ the Redeemer, Cardinal Joseph W. Tobin, C.Ss.R. 2 ARCHDIOCESAN ENDOWMENT FUNDS Value as of June 30, 2016 - $98,885,544 A Generation of Hope Youth Archdiocesan Priests’ Retirement and insurance claims incurred by the parishes, agencies (V: $25,476 D: $1,424) Benefit Endowment Fund and schools of the Archdiocese of Indianapolis.
