2017 NATIONAL COACHING CONFERENCE CBUS STADIUM, GOLD COAST 4TH - 5TH NOVEMBER 2017 NATIONAL COACHING CONFERENCE WELCOMES 2 Brian Canavan I NRL HEAD OF FOOTBALL WELCOMES I would like to personally welcome each of you to the NRL’s National Coaching Conference and congratulate you on your dedication to improve your knowledge of the game. This is the third annual conference that has been conducted, with the Gold Coast in 2015, and Sydney in 2016, hosting the event. In the room today we have coaches working with junior, senior, and elite players, both male and female, from all over the country. Each of you, irrespective of the level of the game you are involved with, play critical roles in ensuring that our game remains the Greatest Game of All. The role of the coach is one of the most significant roles within our game. Not only do you have an opportunity to help young people become better Rugby League players, you also have the unique chance to make a positive difference to people’s lives and inspire a lifelong love of our game. This weekend you will hear from an impressive line-up of speakers and experts who will aim to assist you in this role, and we also see this as a fantastic opportunity for you to learn from one another. Thank you for your attendance at this event and for your commitment to our game. Brian Canavan NRL Head of Football Mal Meninga I AUSTRALIAN KANGAROO’S HEAD COACH Welcome to the 2017 NRL National Coaching Conference. I’m sorry I can’t be there with you this weekend, but I’m still currently involved with the Rugby League World Cup. This is the largest single coach development event on the calendar. In the room there are coaches working with our youngest participants right through to our development pathways and elite level athletes. Each of you play an equally significant role in the development and future of the players in your care, on and off the field. Over the weekend you will get the opportunity to hear from some remarkable people who have made a career through Rugby League or sport, more broadly. I urge you to listen, learn, contribute and enjoy to each of the workshops. You will also have a fantastic opportunity to network, and share your knowledge with coaches from across the nation and overseas. The coach is the gate-keeper to the long-term participation and enjoyment of every person involved in the game. Creating a positive environment, where the players can have fun, enjoy time with their mates, and learn to be better athletes and better people is our job, at every level of the game. Remember… It’s not just what you coach… It’s HOW you coach! Enjoy the weekend, be good, and I’ll look forward to hearing about how the weekend went.
