LONGCHAMP (FR) - Sunday, October 6, 2019 Selections and Analysis

Race 1 - TOTAL PRIX MARCEL BOUSSAC - Gr1, Purse: $440,000 - 2yo Fillies. (9 runners) (turf) about One Mile (1600 meters) 1. PLEGASTELL - Supplemented for this. Daughter of Planteur and has won both her outings at Saint Malo and latterly a Listed event at Craon after missing the break. Respected longshot. 2. FEE HISTORIQUE - Remains a maiden after four runs. Runner up in the middle two of those but only seventh here on her latest start. Would seem to have absolutely zero chance today and is a candidate for last. 3. MARIETA - Daughter of Siyouni has three starts. Runner up on debut at Maisons Laffitte before going back there to win. Big step up second in Gr2 at Deauville in August. Big shout. 4. NUNZIA - Was successful on debut at Marseille Borely in July. Runner up next time in a Listed at Vichy the following month. Fifth in bunch finish behind Savarin last time so more required. 5. BIONIC WOMAN - Promising runner up on debut at Deauville in August before a smooth victory last time out at Saint Cloud. This a big step up in class but trained by Andre Fabre, an absolute legend of the game. 6. FLIGHTY LADY - A debut third here in July which was followed by a win at Deauville the following month. Back here in September to finish third in a Gr3 behind Savarin in a tight enough finish. 7. KENLOVA - Won on debut at Chantilly back in May. Ran only in Gr3 events since. Finished third in the first two of those before close sixth behind Savarin here last time. 8. SAVARIN - A daughter of the mighty Deep Impact and has won both her runs at Deauville and latterly when staying on strongly here in a Gr3 last time. Open to even more improvement now and a worthy favorite. 9. ALBIGNA - Looked a very exciting prospect when winning her first two runs at The Curragh and the second of those was a Gr2. Disappointed in last time. Summary: A good renewal of this historically great event. Irish trainer Jessica Harrington has had a season to remember, especially with her juveniles so it must have hurt when (9) ALBIGNA bombed out in the Moyglare Stud Stakes at the Curragh last time. She is on record as saying that she expects her to show her true form here and is certainly worth a wager. (8) SAVARIN is unbeaten and looked more of a grinder last time but should be in front of (3) MARIETA and (6) FLIGHTY LADY here. Selections: (9) ALBIGNA, (8) SAVARIN, (3) MARIETA, (6) FLIGHTY LADY

Race 2 - PRIX JEAN-LUC LAGARDERE - Gr1, Purse: $440,000 - 2yo Colts & Fillies. (7 runners) (turf) about One Mile (1600 meters) 1. CHACHNAK - Has shown real ability in two starts by winning them both at Vichy and Lyon Parilly in the past couple of months. Should have even more improvement to come but will have to in order to win. 2. ALSON - Has three wins from four starts. Won on debut at Munich and latterly a Gr3 at Baden Baden and previously at Clairefontaine. Fourth to Earthlight on second outing. Is a nice sort. 3. VICTOR LUDORUM - Won on debut here on first of September when blitzing his rivals and then routed another field in Class Two conditions event at Chantilly two weeks later. Could literally be anything here. 4. KENWAY - Won three of six starts and placed in all the others. Improving rapidly now taking a Listed Race at Vichy and Gr3 narrowly here last time. Has a place chance. 5. HELTER SKELTER - Fourth on debut. Much improved thereafter winning twice including here and a Listed event at Deauville last time out which had been preceded by a second in a Listed at this venue. Improving. 6. ARMORY - Has won three of his five runs and is a very classy colt. Gr3 and Gr2 winner before being annihilated by the mighty Pinatubo in the Gr1 National Stakes last time out. 7. ECRIVAIN - Has three wins from four starts. Won on debut at Munich and latterly at Baden Baden and in between at Clairefontaine. Was fourth to Earthlight on second outing. Grand sort but more required. Summary: There could be a potential star in the making here for this high class Jean-Luc Lagardere. The colt in question is the Andre Fabre trained and Godolphin owned (3) VICTOR LUDORUM. He has been extremely impressive in two lesser events to date by blitzing his rivals with a potent turn of foot. He can take this step up in class in stride. (6) ARMORY is representing the Pinatubo form and should take second with (7) ECRIVAIN and (5) HELTER SKELTER next in line. Selections: (3) VICTOR LUDORUM, (6) ARMORY, (7) ECRIVAIN, (5) HELTER SKELTER

Race 3 - QATAR ARABIAN WORLD CUP - Arabian Gr1, Purse: $1,100,000 - 4yo+ (11 runners) (turf) about One and One Quarter Miles (2000 meters) 1. RODESS DU LOUP - A Gr1 winner at Doncaster in September of 2018. Has struggled somewhat this year and will need to improve from his last two at Baden Baden and Goodwood to have a chance here today. 2. KHATAAB - Has won five from 17 career starts. Runner up behind (3) TAYF in a Gr1 here in May and third to Akoya at Deauville in August. Consistent type that can go close here. 3. TAYF - Won a Gr1 race over course and distance here in May and has been runner up in his last two at Baden Baden and Goodwood. A horse with plenty of ability but might find a few too good today. 4. YAZEED - Not run since April 4th when winning a Gr1 race in Doha. Gr1 winner over course and distance in September of 2018 and is not without a chance on his reappearance. 5. EBRAZ - Followed up his La Teste Buch Gr3 on July 2nd by winning a Gr1 at Goodwood later that month. He was a Gr1 winner at Doha earlier this year and must go close today. 6. MASHHUR AL KHALEDIAH - A Gr3 winner at Ostende on July 29th and had a few of these behind when winning a Listed race at Baden Baden last time out. Going for four wins in a row today but is up against it. 7. SALAM AL KHALEDIAH - A regular winner at Warsaw in Poland which includes a Gr3 race there over 2600m last time out on August 18th. Faces better opposition today and is hard to recommend on that basis. 8. AHZAR - Ran well when second in Bordeaux Gr3 in May but was slightly disappointing on his reappearance there last month. This is a step up from that and others are preferred today. 9. MARID - A close second behind Akoya in a Gr1 race over 2000m at Deauville last time out on August 10th. Dual Gr1 winner over this trip in 2018 and has solid place prospects here. 10. DERYAN - Fourth of nine behind Akoya in a Gr1 race over 2000m at Deauville last time out on August 10th. A winner at La Teste Buch and runner up at Chantilly in Group races earlier this year. 11. GENERAL LADY - Decent effort when third behind Akoya in a Gr1 race over course and distance here last month. Won two from four in Warsaw this year but will need to improve to have a chance today. Summary: The well-travelled (5) EBRAZ improved on his Gr3 win at La Teste Buch in July by winning a Gr1 at Goodwood later that same month. Third in the last two editions of this race he is in great shape at present and looks the one to beat. (4) YAZEED was a Gr1 winner at Doha last time out in April. High class colt and runs well when fresh so must be respected. (2) KHATAAB and (9) MARID are both well capable at this level and can be in the mix. Selections: (5) EBRAZ, (4) YAZEED, (2) KHATAAB, (9) MARID

Race 4 - QATAR PRIX de L’ARC de TRIOMPHE - Gr1, Purse: $5,500,000 - 3yo+ (12 runners) (turf) about One and One Half Miles (2400 meters) 1. FRENCH KING - Looked no more than a decent Listed and Group performer last year. Improved beyond all expectations this season winning four including Gr1 in Germany last time. Still has it to do here though. 2. - The big home hope and easy to see why. Loves this course and won the last time. Ground to make up on but it is not impossible and the faster they go the more he likes it. 3. - Has a huge reputation and definitely lived up to that billing with an amazing performance, streaking away with German Gr1 latest recording a monstrous speed figure too. 4. KISEKI - Very classy Gr1 performer in and apparently his handlers were more than happy with his third to Waldgeist in the Prix Foy last time and should be better for that effort. 5. BLAST ONEPIECE - Half a dozen wins in native Japan and was particularly impressive last time out at Sapporo when beating Fierement into third and will carry a lot of confidence from his homeland at a price. 6. FIEREMENT - Another high class runner from Japan. Has won some huge races there. Third behind Blast Onepiece at Sapporo in August. Has a good cruising speed and will be staying on strong at the finish. 7. NAGANO GOLD - Trained in Czech Republic and a really lovely animal. Career best when nearly taking the Hardwicke at Royal Ascot after terribly unlucky run throughout but this will be too tough it seems. 8. ENABLE - What a mare she is. Going for an unprecedented hat trick in this. Arguably arriving in her best ever form and impossible to oppose in reality having beaten everything that has come her way. 9. - Has been an outstanding filly and so unlucky to be around at the same time as Enable. Won the at Leopardstown last time and sure to put up another performance here today. 10. JAPAN - Can be regarded as the best three year old in the world on turf and has had a brilliant run of big wins. Won the Juddmonte International from last time and a threat to Enable. 11. SOFT LIGHT - Has risen through the ranks to become a solid three year old. Career best when second in the Grand Prix de Deauville last time out finishing ahead of the useful Nagano Gold. This is tougher. 12. - The leading French three year old so far this season and has a sparkling turn of foot as shown in the and in the . Chance if he stays this trip in a truly run affair. Summary: This is the most eagerly awaited Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe ever. (8) ENABLE is on the verge of history as she is attempting to win it for the third time. Eight have been successful twice but only has attempted the hat trick. Super-trainer will have her at concert pitch for the task. (10) JAPAN is the best three year old in the field and is sure to test the mare. (2) WALDGEIST and (12) SOTTSASS are best of the home brigade with (3) GHAIYYATH a possibility for a place. Selections: (8) ENABLE, (10) JAPAN, (2) WALDGEIST, (12) SOTTSASS, (3) GHAIYYATH

Race 5 - PRIX de L’OPERA LONGINES - Gr1, Purse: $550,000 - F&M 3yo+ (12 runners) (turf) about One and One Quarter Miles (2000 meters) 1. LIGNE D'OR - Has won three of her ten outings. A career best last time out when a close third in a muddling to Star Catcher and that has to go down as a big run but needs to do better here. 2. WITH YOU - Victorious in three of her ten outings while performing at the highest level for some time. Second in Rothschild and to last time. Major player. 3. WATCH ME - Just the five outings and won a Listed on second start last season. Third success when surprise victor in Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot. Very solid fourth in Jacques Le Marois last time. 4. PINK DOGWOOD - Very classy filly trained by Aidan O Brien. Had the at her mercy but somehow lost it and despite three huge efforts since was underwhelming in the Vermeille last time. Can do more. 5. VILLA MARINA - Did not run at two but has won two from seven this season. Very consistent and progressive before a fourth in the muddling Prix Vermeille. That race was unsatisfactory and may well do better. 6. CARTIEM - Has won three of her seven runs; third in Deauville Gr2 Prix De La Nonette last time. That was a very good effort but will need to double up on that to get competitive here. 7. MEHDAAYIH - Has been a rapid improver this season despite an average enough effort in the Epsom Oaks where things did not go her way. Back to best at St Cloud and then second in Gr1 at Goodwood. 8. TEREBELLUM - Has only had three runs. Hosed up on debut at Goodwood in May before bouncing when third in Newbury Listed next time. Much more like it when taking the Nonette at Deauville last time. Very big player. 9. ETOILE - Successful in half of her six runs which all came this season. Won Gr3 at Saint Cloud in May and then fourth in the Diane. Sixth in Gr2 last time out so must better that here. 10. GODDESS - Has been successful in a third of her nine outings and is now firmly established as a Group performer in Ireland. Runner up in Gr2 at The Curragh last time and could be serious player. 11. FLEETING - Just two wins from ten runs but arguably one of the best three year old fillies of this season. Unlucky in Irish and Epsom Oaks. Fifth in muddling Prix Vermeille last time. 12. COMMES - Very lightly raced with just the half dozen outings. Won on debut and never out of the frame in the others. Just beaten in French Guineas and the Prix de Diane. Third in Gr3 latest. Summary: This is a fantastic Prix de l'Opera, make no mistake. One runner is less exposed than most and that one is (8) TEREBELLUM. John Gosden has been very patient with this big daughter of . She looked unbelievable at Deauville last time and had the required break since that effort to deliver another hammer blow to her rivals here. (11) FLEETING will enjoy a truly run affair for a change. (7) MEHDAAYIH is very dangerous too. (4) PINK DOGWOOD can bounce back also. Selections: (8) TEREBELLUM, (11) FLEETING, (7) MEHDAAYIH, (4) PINK DOGWOOD

Race 6 - PRIX de L’ABBAYE de LONGCHAMP - Gr1, Purse: $385,000 - 2yo+ (16 runners) (turf - straight course) about Five Furlongs (1000 meters) 1. SESTILIO JET - Started career off winning four from seven in Italy. Big speedball has gone on to take four from 13 in France. Gr3 scorer this season but will do well to place now. 2. - Hot favorite even despite the worry of soft ground. Has won ten from nineteen runs. Hacked up in this two years ago before a fourth to last season. 3. SOLDIER'S CALL - A serious juvenile for Archie Watson last term, going close in this very event. Has continued on the up this campaign without winning but placed at the highest level. 4. INVINCIBLE ARMY - A very speedy sort who is trained by a man who is very much on the up and possesses a great strike rate. Another grand effort when third to in Gr1 at The Curragh last time. 5. RECON MISSION - Won twice when trained as a juvenile for Michael O Callaghan in Ireland last season before transferring to Tony Carroll in Britain. Form seems to be in decline and needs a miracle to win here today. 6. GOLD VIBE - Last of four wins came at Fontainebleau over two years ago. Runner up six times since and in this last year, but today would be a big surprise. Easily passed over today. 7. EL ASTRONAUTE - John Quinn has been having a fantastic season and is resurgent. This old campaigner has served him so well down through the years and is a credit to himself. Light may be dimming now however. 8. KEN COLT - Lightly raced four year old from Fabrice Chappet yard. Put up career best last time out in Deauville Listed affair, bolting in there with Gold Vibe behind. Needs more. 9. FINSBURY SQUARE - Trained in Spain by the excellent Mauricio Delcher Sanchez. Third last time out at Lyon Parilly after a year off and will be better for that run. 10. MABS CROSS - Has been a terrific servant for Michael Dods and she reflects very well on his skill to keep producing her at the top level. Beat Gold Vibe in this last season. 11. - Kevin Ryan in the north of England is a brilliant trainer of sprinters and he has another one here in the shape of this filly who has won her last two in France. 12. SO PERFECT - Aidan O’Brien trainee had a top juvenile campaign. Return to sprinting last time produced a career best when just touched off by Fairlyland in Gr1 Flying Five. 13. SHADES OF BLUE - Clive Cox is yet another great exponent of the art of training these high class sprinters. She has won twice and never been out of the frame since including second in four of those efforts. 14. FAIRYLAND - Blindingly fast two year old won four from five including . Back to top form when accounting for several of these in the Flying Five Gr1 latest. 15. SPINNING MEMORIES - Won well on Irish debut last year before transferring to Pascal Bary in France. Successful three times since; bolted up last time in Deauville Gr3. Interesting. 16. JOLIE - Two year olds have a particularly good record in this event by virtue of the weight allowances and they always add to the luster of this great sprint, but this one will struggle. Summary: It is a case of blink and you will miss it for this ferociously hot renewal of the historic Prix de l'Abbaye. Aidan O'Brien seems to hold all the aces with his three year old's, (12) SO PERFECT and (14) FAIRYLAND. They were first and second in the Derrinstown Flying Five at The Curragh recently but the form may be reversed this time. (2) BATTAASH is the raging hot favorite but may be claimed late on. (3) SOLDIER'S CALL and (10) MABS CROSS will be bang there also. Selections: (12) SO PERFECT, (14) FAIRYLAND, (2) BATTAASH, (3) SOLDIER'S CALL,

Race 7 - QATAR PRIX de LA FORET - Gr1, Purse: $385,000 - 3yo+ (12 runners) (turf) about Seven Furlongs (1400 meters) 1. HEY GAMAN - A very decent animal on his day and especially in his favorite circumstances which are when allowed to dominate and when the mud is flying plus he needs to be kept fresh which he is today. 2. SIR DANCEALOT - Ten time winner from thirty four. Trainer David Elsworth has been having a really tough time of it this season but this fellow bounced back to form at Doncaster last time. More than capable. 3. CITY LIGHT - A rapidly improving sprinter last season that kicked off on All Weather Finals day at Lingfield and just touched off at Royal Ascot in the Diamond Jubilee. Back to form lately. Huge player. 4. WALDPFAD - Has been a massive improver this term and now a winner of seven of his sixteen races. Burst on to British scene earlier in year and third in the Haydock Cup last time. Fancied German raider. 5. SAFE VOYAGE - Has been a revelation over the past couple of seasons and has developed into a win machine for John Quinn. Is particularly deadly on soft when fresh like he is today. Much respected here. 6. GLORIOUS JOURNEY - Seemed to be just going through the motions as a good horse over past few years until a career best when taking the Hungerford at Newbury last time out. Still has work to do at a price now. 7. SPEAK IN COLOURS - Has been victorious in a third of her fifteen runs. Solid Listed and Group performer now and did it nicely if unspectacular at The Curragh last time out. More will be required here though. 8. MARIANAFOOT - Lightly raced enough with good record of six wins from thirteen runs. Placed in last two Gr3 events at this venue and behind City Light last time. An honest to God genuine animal. 9. GRAIGNES - Scored on debut last year but winless in nine more since. That stat a bit unfair as he has placed at the highest level. Runner up to City Light here last time out in Gr3. 10. ONE MASTER - Career highlight when a winner of this event last season at a huge price. Better this year with a couple of mighty placed Gr1 efforts in Britain. Fifth last time in Maurice De Gheest. 11. WASMYA - Extremely lightly raced with just four runs which all came this season. Won the last three including a Listed event at Baden Baden. Hard to fault those stats but much more is required now. 12. FOREVER IN DREAMS - Lightly raced three year old that has been victorious in three from her seven runs. Massive effort when second to in Commonwealth Cup at Ascot. Disappointed last time out in Gr1 . Summary: Another feast for the viewing public here and the last of the big Gr1 events on what will prove to be a most memorable Sunday of high class racing. (3) CITY LIGHT is the class act in the field and despite the worry of soft ground denting his unbelievable finishing kick, he is taken to outsprint the mud loving and tough, (5) SAFE VOYAGE. (10) ONE MASTER will not give up her crown without a fight. (4) WALDPFAD will hardly be shying away at the finish either. Great race. Selections: (3) CITY LIGHT, (5) SAFE VOYAGE, (10) ONE MASTER, (4) WALDPFAD

GEORGE THE PRINCE - Not sighted in five starts this term before winning Class 2 handicap over 6f on the turf at Deauville. Close third in Maisons-Laffitte Class 2 handicap latest. 11. ICEFINGER - Won Deauville maiden on his debut last season. Third on reappearance here over this trip in July but has disappointed in his last two. Stiff test today on handicap debut. 12. SANDYSSIME – Won a mile Class 1 handicap in July at Deauville. That was his second big handicap success in 2019. Creditable fifth behind (2) CARLTON CHOICE here last month. 13. Will need to improve. Summary: (8) POST VAR finished a close second in a Class 1 handicap over course and distance last month and the four main protagonists on that occasion do battle again. Good third at Deauville before that and gets the vote ahead of (4) SALT LAKE CITY, close behind him in third and is consistent at this level. (3) MILLFIELD was fourth in that race so cannot be ruled out. (2) CARLTON CHOICE carries a 10-pound penalty but remains in good form. Selections: (8) POST VAR, (4) SALT LAKE CITY, (3) MILLFIELD, (2) CARLTON CHOICE
