You must have a positive outlook in each and everything that you do. Nobody would argue that electricity exists. B You can’t touch, smell, hear, or see it, but its effects are evident everywhere you look. Its pow- er is evident everywhere you look. In the same way, your thoughts are energy. Your thoughts drive your life just as electricity drives a motor. That is the power there is in having a positive mental attitude. If we put action with our positive mental attitude, then the sky is the limit in what we can get accom- plished for the Most Worshipful Prince Grand Lodge of Alabama. If we can dream it, believe it, then we can achieve it. Yes, I am not the first one to say this, and I bet I won’t be the last either. You know why? Because it is true. It’s simple, but true. There is power in thoughts, both in negative and in positive thinking. Choose posi- tivity and you will enjoy positive energy and positive results. A poem by an unknown author states the follow- ing about having a positive mental attitude: “If you think you are beaten you are; If you think you dare not, you don’t; If you want to win but think you can’t; It’s almost a cinch you won’t. If you think you’ll lose you’ve lost; For out of the world we find Success begins with a fellow’s will; It’s all in a state of mind. Life’s battles don’t always go To the stronger and faster man, But sooner or later the man who wins Is the man who thinks he can.” As Masons, we must keep our faith firm in God and always trust in His word.

Hairston, Research Consultant Blue-Lite Research Group Over the course of Masonic history, one of the main objectives of clandestine1 Masonic groups, in order to justify their operation and claim as Masons, is to discredit and demonize legitimate and regularly constituted Masonic bodies. One of the premier groups who implement this tactic is the so-called, “Ancient Free and Accepted Masons”2 (clandestine). There is a lot of material written by Ancient Free and Accepted Masons members, concerning their history or philosophies, but the most coveted publication for them, in discussing the “status” of freemasonry and lineages among African Americans, is a booklet written in 1908 by one Charles L. Mitchell of San Antonio, Texas, The Early Introduction of Bogus Freemasonry in the United States of America and Texas Among Colored Masons. There isn’t much documentation on the personal life of Charles L. Mitchell, whether you go to A. F. & A. M. groups clandestine, or a personal genealogical research. Despite this encumbrance in attempting to delve into the history of the author of the most coveted book for the clandestine A. F. & A. M. organizations, his Masonic history is well documented. Why is this man so important to clandestine A. F. & A. M. groups? Firstly, Charles L. Mitchell was the FIRST and ONLY A. F. & A. M. (African American) member to write a book on Freemasonry among the African American community until the present. And due to the content that he wrote erroneously concerning Prince Hall Affiliated Grand Lodges, which is taken as the gospel among the clandestine A.

    Tidbits of Masonic Trivia * In 1794 a Masonic token was minted in honor of the Prince of Wales in England. A son of George III, he later became George the IV. From 1790 to 1813 he served as the Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of England. The originator of the coin was Brother James Sketchley of Birmingham who created the coin to commemorate the election of the Prince as Grand Master. These coins were so superior in their copper content that they readily became legal tender. In 1817 they were withdrawn from circulation by government order. 1794 Masonic token * James O. Halliwell-Phillips, and English antiquarian and librarian, was not a Mason. While engaged in his work, he came across a manuscript in the British Museum catalogued as A Poem of Moral Duty. It was actually a statement of the "Old Masonic Charges" in poetic form. It is believed to have been prepared in 1390, thus making it the oldest known Masonic document. Now called the Regius Poem, or the Halliwell Manuscript, it was published in 1840 in a brochure entitled On the Introduction of Freemasonry into England. * In 1835 a group of Masons met under a large oak tree in Brazoria, Texas (just south of what is now Houston) and took the first step to form Holland Lodge No. 1. The tree, known as the Masonic Oak, has continued to grow and is still in existence. On May 15, 1966, the Masons of Texas made a pilgrimage to the Oak. There was singing, dinner, preaching and much fun.
