It’s very clear that the set up committee want a name that is inclusive of Farnham and the surrounding villages in the District, to stress their desire that the project is inclusive. The name Our Farnham has been used for the website and blog. Recommendation : The name should be descriptive of the project catchment’s area to stress the inclusive nature of the project and should be a name that’s understood locally and by the potential visiting audience. Our feeling is ‘The Farnham Play’ or ‘The Farnham and District Play’ or “The Waverley Play” are more suitable that ‘Our Farnham’ which could be interpreted as exclusive to Farnham townspeople. Project catchment area Recommendation: The project centres on Farnham and surrounding villages in the Waverley District but is inclusive of anyone, both within and outside the district who wants to participate and contribute their energy to celebrating these communities . Charter Quay, Kingston ... excavations and other archaeological w o r k 1 9 9 8 - 9 Introduction Redevelopment of a 1.65 ha site in Kingston provided a rare opportunity for large- scale excavations by Wessex Archaeology within the core of the medieval town, funded by St George West London Ltd. Earlier fieldwork between 1988 and 1990 both north and south of the Hogsmill River had revealed several medieval waterfront revetments, and a c 0.55 ha excavation south of Emms Passage between the High Street and the Thames waterfront provided evidence of industrial, commercial and domestic activity, and phases of flooding and reclamation. More recent excavations in late 1998 examined a large area south of the Hogsmill River (Trenches 1 and 2) with limited trial work north of it. After Emms Passage was closed, two further areas were investigated in January 1999 immediately adjacent to Trenches 1 and 2, and a watching brief was undertaken during the basementing for a car park south of the Hogsmill River. The latest excavations from March to June 1999 were restricted to land north of the Hogsmill River and began with two more trial trenches and a small excavation undertaken during demolition.

The name Stovold appears more than any other. I have only dealt with one branch which appears to be a direct male line. The last six generations contain the name Frederick and the dates of birth are fairly authentic. Earlier registers may refer to baptisms or dates of birth, it is not always clear. One Christian name, the same as the father’s, made things more difficult. The family could be of Scandinavian origin. It is thought they may have come over at the time of the Vikings in the Ninth Century and, in fact, before the First War my Great Uncle Percy traced the name back to the time of William the Conqueror.
