Charter Quay, Kingston ... excavations and other archaeological w o r k 1 9 9 8 - 9 Introduction Redevelopment of a 1.65 ha site in Kingston provided a rare opportunity for large- scale excavations by Wessex Archaeology within the core of the medieval town, funded by St George West London Ltd. Earlier fieldwork between 1988 and 1990 both north and south of the Hogsmill River had revealed several medieval waterfront revetments, and a c 0.55 ha excavation south of Emms Passage between the High Street and the Thames waterfront provided evidence of industrial, commercial and domestic activity, and phases of flooding and reclamation. More recent excavations in late 1998 examined a large area south of the Hogsmill River (Trenches 1 and 2) with limited trial work north of it. After Emms Passage was closed, two further areas were investigated in January 1999 immediately adjacent to Trenches 1 and 2, and a watching brief was undertaken during the basementing for a car park south of the Hogsmill River. The latest excavations from March to June 1999 were restricted to land north of the Hogsmill River and began with two more trial trenches and a small excavation undertaken during demolition. -

It combines five other walks in this series with some short bridging sections. You need to browse, print or download the following additional walks: Hindhead and Blackdown Devil’s Punch Bowl, Lion’s Mouth, Thursley Puttenham Common, Waverley Abbey & Tilford Puttenham and the Welcome Woods Guildford, River Wey, Puttenham, Pilgrims Way Warning! This is a long walk and should not be attempted unless you are physically fit and have back-up support. Boots and covered legs are recommended because of the length of this walk. A walking pole is also recommended. This monster walk is not suitable for a dog. There are no nettles or briars to speak of. The walk begins at Haslemere Railway Station , Surrey, and ends at Guildford Railway Station. C091/17 Questions and Statements by the Public There was a question from George Hesse who asked what could be done to improve the ongoing issues at the Library Gardens. The Town Clerk advised that several attempts had been made by FTC to take on the running of the gardens from SCC, but as yet no solution had been reached. Members at Strategy & Finance had agreed that a long term solution was preferred and officers were reviewing cost options.
