2019 NINE STATES CHAMPIONSHIPS

The 2019 Nine States Figure Skating Championships will be held in Colorado Springs, CO from October 15 – 20th, 2019. These championships are sanctioned by U.S. Figure Skating and hosted by the Broadmoor SC, Inc.

The Championships will be conducted in accordance with the rules and regulations of U.S. Figure Skating, as set forth in the current rulebook, as well as any pertinent updates which have been posted on the U.S. Figure Skating website.

This competition is open to all eligible, restricted, reinstated or readmitted persons as defined by the Eligibility Rules and is a currently registered member of a U.S. Figure Skating member club, a collegiate club or an individual member in accordance with the current rulebook. Please refer to the current rulebook for non-U.S. Citizens.

ELIGIBILITY/TEST LEVEL:

Test level: Competition level is the highest test passed as of the entry deadline, in the discipline the skater is entering. Entrants may skate one level above that for which they qualify, but they may not skate down in any event.

Age restrictions/requirements: Skaters entering juvenile free skate events (Well Balanced Program) must be 12 years of age or younger for girls; 13 years of age or younger for boys as of the close of entries. Skaters entering open juvenile free skate events (Well Balanced Program), must be 13 years of age or older for girls; 14 years of age or older for boys at the close of entries.

Skaters entering beginner – pre-juvenile events will be divided as closely as possible by age, should the number of entries warrant more than one group.

ENTRIES: Entries will only be accepted online via U.S. Figure Skating’s Event Management System (EMS). Online registration opens July 15, 2019 at 5:00 pm ET and closes September 1, 2019 at 11:59 pm ET.

2020 Qualifying Season – Local Announcement Page | 1 Skaters wishing to register for the competition will need their U.S. Figure Skating member number and password. Final rounds will be held for levels when entries warrant multiple qualifying round groups.

EVENTS OFFERED: The Nine States Figure Skating Championships will offer the following events:

Compete USA and Excel events will compete in groups divided by age with no final rounds. Well-balanced No Test and PrePreliminary events will compete in groups divided by age with no final round. Well-balanced Preliminary, PreJuvenile and Open Juvenile FS events will advance to a final round. All Compete USA and Excel events (Beginner-Juvenile) and No Test and PrePreliminary events will be judged using the 6.0 scoring system. Excel Plus, Excel (Intermediate – Senior), and Well-balanced Program events (Preliminary, PreJuvenile & Open Juvenile) will be judged using the IJS scoring system.

HOTEL & TRANSPORTATION

Hotel Information The host hotel for this event is the Hotel Elegante located at 2886 S Circle Dr, Colorado Springs, Colorado, 80906. Phone: (719) 576-5900. The competition rate is $119/night + taxes. Please be sure to mention the 2020 Southwestern Championships and make your reservations early. The deadline for the competition rate is September14th. .

Transportation Information Two airports are available for traveling to the competition. The Colorado Springs Airport (COS) is approximately 15 minutes from the World Arena. The Denver Airport (DIA) is roughly a 1-1/2 to 2 hour drive to the Springs. There is a shuttle from DIA to Colorado Springs, but you must allow a minimum of 3 hours travel time.

REFUND POLICY: Entry fees will not be refunded after September 1,2019 unless no competition exists or the event is canceled. There will be no refunds for medical withdrawals or for any other reason. The online processing fees are not refundable. Payment of the entry fee will be required before the skater is allowed to participate in practice ice or events.

PRACTICE ICE

Practice ice will only be sold through the Event Management System (EMS). Purchasing information, directions, and offerings will be available on the competition website: https://www.swregionals.com/swninestates

PPC Forms: PPC forms must be submitted no later than October 10, 2019 through EMS for all Well-balanced Programs (Preliminary-Open Juvenile) and all Excel Plus events and Excel events (Intermediate-Senior).

MUSIC:

MUSIC –All competition music must be electronically submitted via the EMS Skater Portal through the Music & Program Content tab no later than October 10, 2019. All music must meet the following criteria.

Online music submission is the ONLY acceptable method to submit program music. MUSIC CRITERIA:

We prefer that there be NO leaders or trailers at all. Excessive leaders and trailers may disrupt the playing of the music during competition.

Competitors must also bring a copy of their competition music on CD as a backup in case of technical difficulties and must be available rink side during the competition. Only CDs (standard CD-R format only) will be accepted for backups and must be clearly marked with the competitor’s name, event, and running time.

LIABILITY: U.S. Figure Skating, Broadmoor Skating Club, and The Broadmoor World Arena and Ice Halls accept no responsibility for injury or damage sustained by any participant in this competition. This is in accordance with Rule 1600 of the official U.S. Figure Skating Rulebook.

Administrative Fee for Incorrect Music or Failure to Upload Music: The LOC will assess a $5.00 fee per event to manually handle a skater’s music, if the skater: 1) fails to submit their music prior to the close of online music submission, 2) submits files that do not follow the specifications above. The skater will not receive their credentials at registration until the fee is paid and they have turned in their music on CD, conforming to the requirements above.

OFFICIAL BULLETIN BOARD The official bulletin board will be located at Gate A of the World Arena next to Registration.

CREDENTIALS All credentials must be picked up at the event registration desk. Skaters will not be able to receive their credential until music and planned program content forms have been received. Only coaches who are listed in the EMS Skater Profile and are fully compliant within U.S. Figure Skating and SafeSport guidelines will receive a credential. Coaches must show photo ID at the registration desk and must pick up their own credential. Credentials must be worn at all times at the competition facility and are non- transferable.

LOCKER ROOMS AND CHANGING AREAS: Safe Sport Compliant Locker rooms will be available on the lower concourse of the World Arena. You must be wearing your credential and sign-in to enter the locker rooms. No coaches are allowed. Only same-sex parents of skaters 11 or under will be allowed to enter and must sign in and show a photo ID. No exceptions. Locker rooms will not be available in the Ice Hall. If you cannot comply with the Safe Sport rules, there are rest rooms available on the main course of the World Arena and in the Ice Hall or you must arrive at the arena already prepared to skate.

REGISTRATION: You must check in at the Registration Desk before you compete. Registration is located at Gate A of the World Arena on the main concourse. The hours of the registration desk will be posted on the competition website.

AWARDS Awards will be presented to athletes in first through fourth place. Overall winners of the final rounds will receive a trophy.

The LOC will have a list of compliant coaches who are approved to receive a credential at the competition. Coaches will need to check in at the event registration desk and show a government issued photo I.D. to receive a credential.

If a coach cannot provide a photo I.D. and is not on the list or cannot produce the necessary documents, he or she will not be allowed a credential. There can be no exceptions to this policy.

Programs with Music: Snowplow Sam – Basic 6 Format: The skating order of the required elements is optional. The elements are not restricted as to the number of times the element is executed or length of glides, number of revolutions, etc. unless otherwise specified. • To be skated on full ice • Vocal music is allowed • The skater must demonstrate the required elements listed and may use any additional elements from their current level or a previous level • Bonus skills from the same level or below are allowed but will not be judged elements • If the description of a required move states the direction of the element or the placement of the free leg, then options are NOT allowed • A .2 deduction will be taken for each element performed from a higher level • Time: 1:10 MAX
