AUDLEY PEDIGREES CHAPTER XX AUDLEY OF LIVERPOOL Compiled for George Audley of Liverpool by Aleyn Lyell Reade Privately printed by Percy Lund, Humphries &Co London & Bradford Introduction This document contains as far as possible an exact copy of Chapter XX 'Audley of Liverpool' from the Audley Pedigrees, compiled for George Audley of Liverpool by Aleyn Lyell Reade, Hon M.A. Oxon, of Liverpool, and privately published by Percy Lund, Humphries & Co. London and Bradford in the mid to late 1930s. This document consists of four sections. The first consist of the ‘general extracts’ of information from various sources. These pages are a scanned copy of the original pages of the original publication. The following three sections contain the information regarding the four ‘separate’ branches of the Audley family that are detailed in the original document. These section have been scanned and then ‘OCRed’ to put them into a word processor format. The ultimate aim is to update as much as possible these four sections. Unfortunately the OCR software used was not perfect and although each section has been checked this process may have caused transcription errors. If anyone spots any such errors could you please advise us through the website contact page and we will revise this document accordingly. The original publication is understood that it consists of three volumes consisting of twenty chapters in total and originally published in 3 volumes. The George Audley of Liverpool (1864 – 1932) who funded the original publication is part of Family Pedigree ‘C’ of this Chapter XX. Unfortunately he died before the third volume could be published. -

GT Reference: E18/1232 Thank you for consulting The Gardens Trust (GT) in its role as Statutory Consultee with regard to proposed development affecting a site listed by Historic England (HE) on their Register of Parks and Gardens as per the above application. The Lancashire Gardens Trust (LGT) is a member organisation of the GT and works in partnership with it in respect of the protection and conservation of registered sites, and is authorised by the GT to respond on GT’s behalf in respect of such consultations. We have reviewed the application documentation, but not visited the site. It is noted that the application site occupies a prominent location within the Grade II Registered Allerton Cemetery, laid out by the City Engineer based on influence of contemporary European examples and opened in 1909. The current application concerns development within the central section of the Cemetery which is dominated by the three mortuary Chapels, the Anglican Chapel at the central avenue, the Non Conformist and Roman Catholic symmetrically arranged to the north and south respectively. LGT objects to the current application for the following reasons: It is not clear from the application documentation whether mausoleums already exist within Allerton Cemetery, or whether this current application is setting a precedent. -

SOUTHAMPTON’S MIGRANT PAST A WALKING TOUR This pamphlet and the walking tour are to introduce you to the rich history of Southampton’s migrant past. Southampton, even from prehistory, has been shaped by migration – both through invasion (Romans, Saxon, Viking and Norman) and by refugees and others who have chosen to come or have been sent here, making it the exciting cosmopolitan city it is today. Much of this migrant past is hidden but can still be found. This is typified by the cover illustration – the wonderful automata Bathers in Southampton Water by Sam Smith. Sam, the son of a steamship captain, grew up in Southampton and used to watch the liners go by, impressed as a lad only by the number and size of their funnels. Later in life after visiting Ellis Island in New York he realised that they were vessels carrying thousands of ordinary migrants. In this work, Sam Smith tells the user of this model that in the bowels of the ship ‘you may espy the Steerage Passengers’. These, he believed, were ‘the real people’. Similarly this walking tour will make ‘the invisible, visible’ so that the migrant contribution can be fully appreciated - not only for those who live here but also to visitors to Southampton. Southampton, past and present, is a place of movement and settlement. This tour is designed to show that its dynamism is built on migration. We hope you enjoy exploring these exciting sites which will concentrate on the historic quarter and the old dock area. A separate tour of the old Cemetery - over a mile to the north - is also provided, revealing again the fascinating and unique histories of migrant Southampton. -
