Scouting the Friars The Friars are currently 9-4-1 overall and 9-4-1 in Hockey East.

Providence had an open weekend Jan. 29-30 when the original series against New Hampshire was postponed.

Previously, the Friars were downed by Northeastern, 5-0, in the back-end of a home-and-home series against the Huskies. Freshman Mireille Kingsley (Sudbury, Ontario) made her first collegiate debut in net in the final period.

Hjalmarsson leads the charge offensively for the Friars with 14 points (five goals, nine assists). Peterson is second. She’s tallied four goals, five assists and nine points. Freshman defender Brooke Becker (Orchard Park, N.Y.) comes in at third with eight points (two goals, six assists). 17 different Friars have points on the season and 13 players have recorded at least one goal.

Sandra Abstreiter (Freising, Germany) has made 14 starts in net. She holds a .930 save percentage and a 1.87 goals against average. The netminder has made 344 total saves and has three shutouts.

USCHO Division I Women’s Poll-February 2nd, 2021 As of Feb. 2, the Friars are slotting in at number ten in the USCHO NCAA Women’s Hockey rankings. This is Providence’s ninth consecutive week ranked in the top 10.

Sandra Abstreiter and Clare Minnerath shared time net this season for the Friars. Abstreiter posted a 9-9-2 overall record while Minnerath recorded an identical nine wins with a 9-5-2 overall record. Abstreiter finished the season with a 1.74 goals against average and .929 save percentage while Minnerath earned a 2.06 goals against average and .906 save percentage. The duo combined to make 779 saves with Abstreiter picking up 448 saves compared to Minnerath’s 328 saves.

The Newcomers The Friars welcome in eight new members to the program for the 2020-21 season - Maddy Coene, Lindsay Bochna, KC Brooks, Chloe McNeil, Brooke Becker, Claire Tyo and Mireille Kingsley. Providence also welcomes in Hunter Barnett, a junior who spent the previous two The Crusaders enter the game at 1-1-0 (1-1-0 HE). Holy Cross opened the season with a series against the , with one loss and one win. Last season, the team averaged 1.09 goals per game and is 8/96 on the power play and 86/108 on the penalty kill.

Freshman Sensation DeBlois finished her freshman campaign with with 23 points, third-best on the team, after tallying six goals alongside 17 assists. Three of her goals came as game-winners, in- cluding the game-winning goal at North- eastern on Feb. 14. Four of her goals came on the power play this sea- son. She recorded 67 shots on the year and played in all 36 of Providence’s contests. She was named to the Hockey East Pro Ambitions All-Rookie Team, announced on March 4.

Scouting the Wildcats The Wildcats enter the game with a 5-10-1 overall record and a 5-10-1 mark in conference. Last weekend, the Wildcats swept Merrimack in a home-and-home series, both being shut out games. In the 2019-20 season, the Huskies went 18-15-4 overall and 12-12-2 in the Hockey East.

As a team, the Wildcats average 2.0 goals per game while giving up 2.5. The Wildcats convert on 5.7% of pow- er play chances and kill off 87.9% of penalties.

Who to Watch UNH has two players in double figures with 18 players tallying at least one point this season. Nicole Kelly leads the Wildcats with 11 points on three goals and eight assists. Jada Christian posts a team-high five goals.

Ava Boutilier has started a team-high 14 games in 14 appearances. She posts a 2.29 goals against average and .920 save percentage. He led the team to a 24-11-2 record, helping the Friars to tie the program-high for wins in a season. Kelly led Providence to the Hockey East Semifinals for the first time since 2013 and coached three Friars to Hockey East honors at the conclusion of the season. In 2019-20, Kelly led the team to the Hockey East Quarterfinals with a 18-14- 4 overall record as the No. 3 seed. He coached two Friars to Hockey East honors as Whitney Dove was named a Hockey East All-Star Second Team selection and freshman Lauren DeBlois was named to the Pro Ambitions All-Rookie Team. Prior to Providence, Kelly served as a Head Scout for USA Hockey and the Women’s National Team. His primary responsibility was to oversee and maintain the player pools for the U-18 and U-22 squads, in addition to the Women’s National Team. During his time with USA Hockey, Kelly won a total of eleven gold medals. He recently captured a gold medal with the Women’s National Team at the 2018 Olympics in PyeongChang. Additionally, he helped the U18 team win four-consecutive gold medals (2015-2018). This marked the first time any U18 team won four World Championships in a row. With USA Hockey, Kelly also was directly responsible for player selection to various USA Hockey camps and teams. Additionally, he helped foster player development and the implementation of long-term strategy. Before USA Hockey, Kelly served as an assistant women’s ice hockey coach at Clarkson University in Potsdam, N.Y. During his tenure there, Kelly helped guide the Golden Knights to a National Championship in 2014. Clarkson qualified for the ECAC playoffs each of the six years that Kelly was on the bench and claimed three league titles during that span. The Golden Knights reached the NCAA Tournament three times (2010, 2013 and 2014). Kelly recruited and coached several high-profile players at Clarkson, including one Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award Winner, 10 Patty Kazmaier nominees and two ECAC players of the year. In addition to his coaching experience at Clarkson, Kelly also spent a season coaching at Quinnipiac University (2007- 08) and his alma mater, Wayne State University (2006-07). A 2007 graduate of Wayne State, Kelly holds a bachelor’s degree in media arts and studies. As a goaltender for the Warriors, Kelly earned All- Second Team honors in his senior season. He served as a captain and was named the CHA/Easton Three Star Award recipient in that season as well. Other2accolades from his playing career include the CHA All-Academic Team and the 2004 CHA All-Tournament Team.
