ZONDERVAN LIBRARY GUIDE TO ELECTRONIC RESOURCES The Kuyper College Zondervan Library electronic resources may be accessed through the web at www.kuyper.edu/library . The Library’s website provides access to general information, the online catalog (print, audio and video/DVD resources), periodical holdings and more. The Library Resources tab in Sakai (https://sakai.lampschools.org) is the complete resource site for you as a student. It contains information and access to all Zondervan Library services such as interlibrary loan, citing information, research guides, database access and more. Remote access to electronic resources (databases) is available using a login and password provided during student orientation or through the Information Technology (IT) Department. These resources have been purchased/provided for you as you undertake your studies at Kuyper College. Kuyper College Zondervan Library licenses online databases for use by students, faculty and staff. These databases index, abstract, and in some cases provide full-text documents to academic journals, scholarly publications, news magazines, newspapers, conference proceedings, etc. All electronic resources may be accessed via the College web page or Library Resources page in Sakai using your student login/password. Electronic Databases available through the Internet: ● Atla Religion Database This database is a comprehensive database designed to support religious and theological scholarship in graduate education and faculty research. The file contains citations from international titles and multi-author works in and related to the field of religion. It also includes a full range of index citations to journal articles, essays in multi-author works, and book reviews from Atla’s print indexes: Religion Index One (RIO), Religion Index Two (RIT), Index to Book Reviews in Religion (IBRR). Though coverage is from 1949 to the present, not all publications begin in 1949. ● Christian Periodical Index This database provides access to English language articles and reviews written from an evangelical perspective. Currently CPI indexes over 140 selected publications from the broad spectrum of knowledge including science, literature, medicine, music, philosophy, history, sociology, nursing, and education. Coverage is representative of the major doctrinal positions within evangelical Christianity. CPI is published by the Association of Christian Librarians. ● CRC Periodicals Index The CRCPI provides access to articles from various periodicals that are of interest to members of the Christian Reformed Church in America. With a network of staff, board, and affiliates around the world, Creative Commons provides free, easy-to-use copyright licenses to make a simple and standardized way to give the public permission to share and use your creative work–on conditions of your choice. ● CultureGrams A leading reference that is full text for concise, reliable, and up-to-date cultural information on countries across the globe, this database includes four editions: the World Edition (for middle school and up) and the Kids, States, and Canadian Provinces editions (for upper elementary school students). Also includes, photos, downloadable slideshows and streaming videos, build-your-own sortable data tables and graphs, interviews with native children and adults,printable maps and flags, sounds files for the national anthems and country names and much more. Written by local experts, there is information on government, religion, daily life and customs, history, plus maps, flags, and both photographs and videos. CultureGrams reports are updated twice annually. ● Digital Library of Abraham Kuyper Abraham Kuyper was the greatest and most controversial figure in the Calvinist renaissance that took place at the conclusion of the nineteenth century and the beginning of the twentieth in The Netherlands. He was perhaps the most prolific public intellectual of his day. The Digital Library of Abraham Kuyper offers access to more than 150,000 pages of documents related to Abraham Kuyper, including the majority of his published works and his complete archive. The Digital Library of Abraham Kuyper is co-sponsored by the Abraham Kuyper Center for Public Theology at Princeton Theological Seminary and The Historical Documentation Centre for Dutch Protestantism (1800 to the present day) at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. ● Encyclopedia of Social Work Co-published by the National Association of Social Workers Press and Oxford University Press, the Encyclopedia of Social Work provides students, scholars, and practitioners with a digital guide for a lifetime of social service. This resource offers the authority and reliability of the classic Encyclopedia of Social Work reference work in a user-friendly online platform. The Collection ● A foundational guide for a broad audience, ranging from social work students, scholars, and practitioners to researchers in related fields like public health and sociology ● Over 450 high quality articles offer overviews of every facet of social work study ● New entries added and current articles reviewed for accuracy and timeliness on a monthly basis ● A 14-member editorial board, led by Cynthia Franklin, features experts with backgrounds in clinical social work as well as academia ● Articles range from 200-word biographies on key figures in social work to 8,000-word overviews on complex topics practitioners face Functionality ● Browse one or all of the Encyclopedia’s twenty-four subject areas, spanning the breadth of specialties within social work ● Find key content, from freely-available featured articles to “Getting Started” site guides and more, on the user-friendly homepage ● Identify relevant sources with bibliographic information, including specific subjects covered in the article ● Zero in on relevant content using the table of contents with links to article headings and subheadings ● Films on Demand : Master Academic Collection Films on Demand features 24/7 unlimited access – anytime, anywhere—to thousands of educational videos and contains. New content added every month. Powerful browse and search tools, including a search assist feature. There is the ability to save, share and organize videos and playlists. Videos contain authenticated HTML embed code that allows direct access to videos from within course management software. Ipad, Android, PC and MAC friendly. Permitted Uses of Films on Demand Films on Demand is licensed solely to Licensee and Authorized Users for classroom teaching, research, presentations, and educational non-commercial multimedia projects for use in educational institutions, provided no admission or other fees are charged for public viewing. Licensee and Authorized Users may stream, display, publicly perform, or exhibit the Video Titles asynchronously on a single computer or network, course management system, or password-protected website. Licensee and Authorized Users may electronically save, organize, and share Video Titles or parts thereof with other Authorized Users using tools provided with Films on Demand. Licensees may create and distribute transcripts. Prohibited Uses of Films on Demand Neither Licensee nor Authorized Users may (1) mount or distribute any element of Films on Demand or any of its Collections on any electronic network accessible to parties who are not Authorized Users, including without limitation the Internet and the World Wide Web; (2) use all or any part of Films on Demand for Commercial use or; (3) copy, transmit, modify, distribute, sell, or create derivative works from the Video Titles except as expressly permitted under applicable law or as described herein. Interlibrary loan functionality is not supported by the Films on Demand platform. ● Michigan Electronic Library MEL is an online information system that provides residents of Michigan with no-charge access to a core set of electronic resources. MeL contains magazine, newspaper and journal articles, books, and evaluated Web sites. It includes specialized resources such as those in genealogy, health, business, test preparation, careers and education. MEL’s virtual library is selected and evaluated by librarians and is designed to be a comprehensive electronic information tool for the state’s libraries, schools and citizens. Databases available for access via MEL: A-Z Databases Detailed information on 30 million businesses and executives and 2 million new businesses. Includes data on over 200 million residents as well as new movers/homeowners. Special features include a background and criminal history search. Information provided on U. S. healthcare professionals. Includes a jobs database and email marketing. Academic Search Complete TOTAL TITLES INDEXED: 17,100+FULL TEXT TITLES: 8,900+ Designed for academic institutions.
