Evidence of early man can be found throughout the parish, enabling us to build a picture of how the community of Stonehouse developed over the centuries. The fact that a stone cist was found in the old kirk cemetery in 1937, confirms this site as a CASTLES place of pagan burial. -
3 Alternatives Considered
Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route Environmental Statement Part A: The Scheme 3 Alternatives Considered 3.1 Introduction 3.1.1 This chapter provides an outline of the development of the AWPR including an overview of the assessment work that has been undertaken in the selection of a preferred route and a summary of the objectives of the proposed scheme. 3.2 Background 3.2.1 As described in Chapter 2 (Need for the Scheme), a peripheral route around Aberdeen has been considered since the 1950s, and in the 1990s a western leg route corridor was proposed (the Western Peripheral Route; WPR). The WPR as identified by Grampian Regional Council and its successor authorities was subsequently extended to link with the A90 north of Aberdeen by NESTRANS. The route corridor comprising the WPR and this additional link was named the AWPR and in April 2003 was adopted and promoted by the Scottish Executive as a Trunk Road within a funding partnership of the Scottish Executive, Aberdeen City Council, and Aberdeenshire Council. 3.2.2 The AWPR was refined within this corridor from April 2003 until December 2004, when Transport Scotland requested that consideration be given to additional corridors. In December 2005, following consideration of the alternative corridors, including public consultation held in Spring 2005, the Minister for Transport announced that the AWPR would be taken forward on the Milltimber Brae Route with a Fastlink to Stonehaven. 3.2.3 Various options have been considered at each of the stages described above. The option consideration process included production of many reports and papers that set out the engineering, economic and environmental advantages and disadvantages of alternative routes and corridors. -

With reference to paragraph 4 of the Executive Minute of 10 August 2008, there had been circulated copies of a report by the Head of Planning and Building Standards seeking approval for Draft Supplementary Planning Guidance (SPG) on New Housing in the Borders Countryside as a basis for public consultation. The report explained that the draft SPG sought to consolidate and update previous guidance and to clarify the position on the 100% Rule contained within the Local Plan Policy D2 – Housing in the Countryside. DESCRIPTION Allanton is located just over 7 miles from Duns and just under 10 miles from Berwick-upon-Tweed. The population of Allanton in the 2001 Census was 86. The village is located within the Eastern Strategic Development Area (SDA) as defined by the SESplan. PLACE MAKING CONSIDERATIONS Allanton is located above the riverbanks of the Blackadder Water and Whiteadder Water which meet just north of the village. The character of Allanton is largely defined by the fact that it developed as an estate village of Blackadder House; splay fronted lodges display the old entrance and the village has developed around them in a linear fashion along the road. -

Introduction 1.1 The current North Lanarkshire Local Plan was informed by the, Capacity of the North Lanarkshire Landscape to Accommodate Wind Turbine Development (ASH 2008). This Study did not define capacity in terms of a level of development to be achieved, nor did it comment on cumulative impact. In 2013, there was a further Study undertaken by Bayou Bluenvironment that examined, in detail, the Landscape and Visual Sensitivity and the Capacity for wind energy within Fortissat Ward. SETTLEMENT PROFILE JEDBURGH HOUSING MARKET AREA LOCALITY POPULATION Central Cheviot 4,030 PLACEMAKING CONSIDERATIONS The historic settlement of Jedburgh was built either side of the Jed Water which runs on a north-south axis, and is framed by Lanton Hill (280 metres) and Black Law (338 metres) to the west and south west and by lower more undulating hills to the east. The Conservation Area of Jedburgh includes much of the historic core of the town including the Abbey and the Castle Gaol. Similar to Edinburgh Old Town in its layout, Jedburgh has a long street that rises terminating with the castle at the highest point. The High Street is characterised by a mix of commercial, residential and social facilities, the central area is focused around where the Mercat Cross once sat with roads leading off in various directions. Properties within the Conservation Area are built in rows with some detached properties particularly along Friarsgate. Ranging from two to three and a half storeys in height, properties vary in styles. Although the elements highlighted above are important and contribute greatly to the character of Jedburgh they do not do so in isolation. Building materials and architectural details are also just as important. Sandstone, some whinstone, harling, and slate all help to form the character. Architectural details such as sash and case windows (though there are some unfortunate uPVC replacements), rybats, margins, detailed door heads above some entrances and in some instances pilasters all add to the sense of place. Any new development must therefore aim to contribute to the existing character of the Conservation Area. -

On lead in built-up areas and public roads. Refreshments: A number of options at Stonehaven harbour and elsewhere in the town. Description This is a very varied walk around and about the coastal town of Stonehaven, sampling its distinctive character and charm. Nestling around a large crescent-shaped bay, the town sits in a sheltered amphitheatre with the quirky Auld Toon close by the impressive and picturesque harbour. A breakwater was first built here in the 16thC and the harbour-side Tolbooth, now a museum, was converted from an earlier grain store in about 1600. The old town lying behind it is full of character and interest. The Ship Inn was built in 1771, predating the unusually-towered Town House which was built in 1790. -
