Parts of the Ukulele Warm-ups
- Copycat (call + response – use chords, plucking, body/uke percussion) - Don’t play this one back (the forbidden rhythm) - The ‘spider’ (you can also do the backwards spider…!) (G0123 C0123 E0123 A0123) - How many chords can you play me? (most REAL chords wins!) - The countdown (drum roll on ukes… “3 2 1... (chord name)” – rock out on that chord) - Give it to me... (based on the song 54-46 was my number... pick a chord then shout “Give it to me, X times” changing chords as and when) - Fill in the gaps (see next slide) (using the uke as a drum, learn the pattern then choose people to improvise chords in the gaps) 1 - - - IMPROVISE chords in 1 2 - - - the gaps! 1 2 3 - - 1 2 3 4 5 clap
At the end of each cycle the next person has a turn at improvising. If you’re not improvising you need to play the rhythmic pattern!
