Saturday, April 26, 2014 Michael Eggman, PDC members Bill James, Steve Chessin, Amy Pearl and Greg Loew served as delegates to the CA State Democratic Party Convention held Candidate for Congress, CD 10 in Los Angeles March 7-9.

Chair John Burton urged Secretary of State Candidates Alex Padilla, Derek Cressman and Leland Yee and Controller Candidates Betty Yee Friday, May 9, 2014 and John Perez not to seek delegate endorsements and for delegates to adopt a “No Endorsement” position to allow all 23rd Annual Jefferson candidates to appear on the primary ballot and for party unity. His urgings were ignored. Because Padilla received only 59% of the Jackson Fundraiser Dinner 60% delegate vote needed for Party endorsement, both he and Cressman will enter the primary race without Party endorsement. See page 6 and 7 for more infomation. In the Controller’s race, neither Yee nor Perez—both prominent Democrats—could garner the desired 60% needed for Party endorsement. Governor Jerry Brown’s accomplishments earned him Sunday, May 18, 2014 enthusiastic applause from delegates. In his comments, Brown celebrated a balanced state budget, the end to cuts in education Santa Clara County District and raising the minimum wage to $10 per hour to improve the lives of a million low-wage Californians. Delegates also wildly applauded Brown’s support for the CA Dream Act, driver’s Attorney Jeff Rosen licenses for undocumented immigrants and a Climate Change “Human Trafficking Close to Home” Pact signed with Oregon, Washington and British Columbia to reduce greenhouse gases and promote clean energy. See page 9 and next month’s newsletter However, throughout Brown’s speech, numerous anti-fracking signs appeared opposing Brown’s pro-fracking policy. Contrary to for more infomation. State party chair John Burton had encouraged candidates not to seek endorsement, arguing it was better for party unity, and encouraging delegates to vote “no endorsement.” Several of the candidates were actively campaigning for endorsement prior to the convention; others were actively saying “I’m not seeking your President’s endorsement and you should vote no endorsement as Chairman Burton requested.” In the end no candidate got enough votes to Column receive the Party endorsement. But there was a lot of hot discussion about this. What do you think? You can post your Amy Pearl opinion on the PDC Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/PDC/.
