=Issue Date: May 24, 1985 Israelis, Palestinians Exchange Prisoners PRINT EMAIL SAVE TEXT 1,150 Arabs Swapped For Three Israelis Freed Prisoners Profiled Furor in Israel 1,150 Arabs Swapped For Three Israelis Israel May 20 freed 1,150 Arab prisoners at widely separate locations, in a complicated exchange with a Palestinian guerrilla group to obtain the release of the last three known Israeli prisoners of war captured during the invasion of Lebanon. The main exchange took place at Geneva airport, where 394 guerrillas were flown in from Israel and the threeIsraeli soldiers were flown in from Damascus. After the swap, the Arabs boarded a plane for Libya and theIsraelis flew home. At the same time, 150 Arabs were released at Quneitra in the Golan Heights, and 606 were released in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. The exchange came after two years of bargaining between Israel and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine-General Command (PFLP-GC), the pro-Syrian guerrilla faction commanded by Ahmed Jabril that had been holding the Israeli POWs. The two sides had negotiated with each other through the International Committee of the Red Cross and through Herbert Amry, Austria's ambassador to Greece. Amry was a close associate of former Austrian Chancellor Bruno Kreisky, who had helped initiate the exchange. In other lopsided prisoner exchanges since Israel's invasion of Lebanon, some 4,500 Palestinians and Lebanese had been traded for six Israeli POWs in November 1982, and more than 300 Syrians had been exchanged for six more Israelis in June 1984.

THE UGLY ONE DOSSIER DE PRESSE — 1 — The Ugly One -- a film by Eric Baudelaire from a story told by Masao Adachi France - 2013 - 101 min image format 2.39 - sound format 5.1 - DCP produced by Poulet-Malassis www.pouletmalassis.com +33 6 47 82 68 90 [email protected] SYNOPSIS Winter, Beirut. On a beach littered with cans washed up from the sea, Lili and Michel meet. Or perhaps they know each other from before... As they struggle to piece together the fragments of an uncertain past, memories emerge: an act of terrorism, an explosion and the disappearance of a child, Elena. Woven throughout these fragments is the deep voice of a Japanese narrator who recounts his own experience of a weeping Beirut, and his 27 clandestine years fighting alongside the Palestinians as a member of the Japanese Red Army. His voiceover shapes Michel and Lili’s story, their fate dictated by the enigma created for them by this narrator who turns out to be legendary Japanese New Wave filmmaker Masao Adachi. DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT Masao Adachi, screenwriter for Nagisa Oshima and Kôji Wakamatsu, and former member of the Japanese Red Army terrorist organisation, had not been commissioned to write an original screenplay since 1972. Pursuing a collaboration that began when I made a documentary about him in 2011, The Anabasis of May and Fusako Shigenobu, Masao Adachi and 27 Years Without Images, I asked Adachi to write a script for a feature film I planned to shoot during an exhibition at the Beirut Art Center in February 2013.

Keeping the Peace-British, Israeli, and Japanese Legislative Responses to Terrorism I. Introduction In recent decades, the global community has been confronted with the phenomenon of terror as a means of protest. Even though terrorism is more commonplace in some regions than in others, all societies have become wary of its devastating impact. The threat posed by insurgents who seek to radically alter a nations' cultural, social, and political precepts has proven to be unpredictable, but efficient policy management can effectively safeguard potential targets and strengthen vulnerable weaknesses. The United Kingdom, Israel, and Japan have each developed terrorism counteraction policies based upon legislation that specifically targets insurgent operations. While it is important that these initiatives be liberally construed in order to efficiently police terrorist behavior, it is equally important that these laws be narrowly tailored so as to protect individual liberties.
