In memory of Dennis Mills OBITUARY - DENNIS MILLS In memory of Dennis Mills following his recent battle with cancer; our thoughts are with Brenda, Darryl and family. Since the club’s move to Ruislip Dennis became a passionate supporter of Wealdstone FC, making his debut as a voluntary matchday steward in the FA Trophy semi-final against Newport County. He went on to make about 150 hi-vis appearances for The Stones, alongside his son and best mate Darryl. Many of you will know Dennis as a larger than life character with a great sense of fun and an infectious laugh. Amongst the steward team he became affectionately known as ‘Papa Smurf’ and he especially enjoyed the banter over the radios and the post-match pints. Two of Dennis’ many highlights were escorting Ginge off the pitch after his hilarious topless sprint to hug goal scorer Peter Dean at the end of the Isthmian winning season, and the fabulous alcohol fuelled celebrations at Maidenhead United in the last match of our return season to National South. Cheers Dennis - thanks for the memories; they’ll always guarantee us a smile! PETER MARSDEN Chairman’s Notes

ANY NEW CAMPAIGN ALWAYS BRING WITH IT FRESH EXPECTATIONS

ood afternoon everyone and a warm welcome to Adam and his Concord Gteam for the start of another new season.

I’m honestly not sure if these summer breaks get shorter or we have to cram in so much more these days. Time just seems to have flown by since the end of April, but with this season starting the first week of August, we had the boys back in training the last week of June so it’s actually only a seven weeks break. The beginning of any new campaign always bring with it fresh expectations. Last year, I went on record as saying a top eight finish and the hope of the play offs was my personal expectation, with the new group we had assembled. We did finish eighth, but I can honestly say it felt like a poor season and we had underachieved. This year we need to build on those foundations and ensure we improve. If we can, and with the new rules in place, a top seven finish will guarantee us a play-off position. Looking at news from around the rest of the league, I feel Hemel, Eastbourne and Chelmsford have done some GORDON BARTLETT
