Radio Action Continued Wgrq, Buffalo, Ny M.D.-Bill Weston RADIO ACTION CONTINUED WGRQ, BUFFALO, NY M.D.-BILL WESTON: "Instead of clouding your vision with 80/20, 70/30, and 50/50 ratios, try 20/20. Take a look at your listeners' responses over the past week. In 10 days, 97ROCK has yet to receive the comment 'What happened to your C-2's?' Really, no response about the lack of oldies, but a very noticeable surge in requests for the hot new songs. Plus, it's fun to be on the air again...Very heavy requests, all ages, for the Styx single. Their image isn't as wimpy as we think... The other hot phone item is the Journey Lp. All comments very supportive. Smith's drums and Schon's guitars are right up front with Perry's vocals. Perfect chemistry and perfect timing...97POCK's concert with Missing Persons is sold out and 'Spring Session M' is selling To 10. Can't wait to see Dale's coconut shell brassiere...More sex and rock and roll--Berlin. A cautious add. We'll closely moiiitor phones on this one...Very happy to get back on the 'Night And Day' album. Wanted to go for 'Real Men', but had to settle for 'Another World'. Please come to Buffalo, Joe!!!" KZOK, SEATTLE, WA M.D.-CRAIG MARTIN: "Maybe tus is the Journey album that should have been titled 'Departure', because compared to their last couple of albums, it's definitely that. • As far as reaching new 'frontiers', I'm not sure. What I do know is this is the first Journey album to show that these guys can rock and roll. It comes as no surprise to anyone familiar with the band. We were just wondering if they ever would rock again after finding success in MOR heaven, hut they're rockin' on 'Frontiers'. The single 'Separate Ways', 'Chain Reaction', 'Rubicon', and 'Back Talk' all kick ass; and, the overall feel of the album has a lot more guts to it than anything they've ever done...Eric Clapton opened his North American tour in Seattle last night at the Paramount Theater, a beautiful old 3,000-seatter that was the perfect setting to see Clapton. Eric and his band, featuring Duck Dunn, was fantastic as they went through a set of post-Cream material. Pll the hits were there, including 'Layla' and 'Let It Rain', as well as a good dose of material from the new album. Eric is such a great guitarist, he makes it look easy. That may be the only criticism of him. Maybe if he were just a little flashier he might be able to reach a younger audience. I'm sure Eric's not worried about it because his audience is already pretty large. And if you're a part of it, you'll enjoy 'Money And Cigarettes' and you won't want to miss him when he hits your town, especially if he's playing a smaller hall (like he did here in Seattle). Eddie Van Halen would have left the place drooling." KQAK, SAN FRANCISCO, CA P.D.-BELLE NOLAN: "Just when I was starting to dry out from the Convention-- Pow-ee, rain, rain, and more rain. Guess that's one way to get things growing here in the Bay Area, including the nurturing of some very happening artists...Tonio K. Capitol, my faith in you has been renewed. You have reserviced radio with a few spicy Tonio K. offerings from his mini album. Don't drop the ball there, work that sucker to death. Ecstatic to find out that 'I Handle Snakes' will be on the next Tonio K. Capitol release, but whoa--not yet. Let's get back to his latest project first... Robert Hazard's 'Escalator Of Life' is an absolutely irresistible tune and prompts our staff to respond in chanting...Here's one fan who definitely misses the patter of Little Feat. Nice to have Paul Barerre carrying on the tradition.. .Had a chance to listen to the U2 thanks to Michael Abramson. They' ve refined their sound to meet rock radio's new criteria, yet have maintained their integrity as first-rate musicians. It's great watching this band grow...Duran Duran must be the fastest burning record we've ever seen here at the KQAK. It's a direct result of heavy airplay on five stations and oversaturation on MTV...On the other hand, The B'zz could be the fastest growing tune on AOR. Monster city...Here comes the 'fess up'. Even though I've admired their organization and have nothing personal against the band, Journey has not been one of my favorite rock groups. But geez, who could deny the power and impact of 'Frontiers'? I'm especially partial to 'Send Her My Love'--a smooth, sensual, mature-sounding love song. For our smoker, we'll take 'Edge Of The Blade' in addition to 'Separate Ways'. Thanks, Journey, for sparing me the wrinkles...Added the Heaven 17 and also the wry Randy Newman...Can't wait for the Marty Balin. He'll give you the Airplane sound that Starship couldn't without him." WBCN, BOSTON, MA M.D.-MARC MILLER: "To Hugh Munoz at The Channel regarding last week's comments: If you would get the shit out of your ears and turn on the radio and stop looking at charts, you'd realize that you didn't know what you were talking about. As it happens, Culture Club's 'Do You Really Want To Hurt Me' has been the most played song at WBCM for the past five weeks, and that's how long the record has been out. We also added Duran Duran out-of-the-box the first time. And, if you would stop being so damn elitist, you might like Red Rider and Sammy Hagar...Fnough name calling, now onto the music...The Simple Minds records sounds great on the radio. Check out: 'Glittering Prize'...And don't miss the Thomas Dolby Lp...Album of the week goes to: Journey. It's almost hard to believe that these guys keep getting better and better...Fun add of the week is: Malcolm McLaren, 'Buffalo Gals'. Oedipus would like to thank all concerned for setting up the meeting with Malcolm...And now here's DANNY SEL: 'So there I was with stacks of records to listen to and I put on Sound Barrier. Wait! Hold on! Could it be? Yes, unpretentious heavy rockers. These guys can play and then some. Check out 'Nobody Cares' and 'Rock On The Wild Side' and be the first in your town to break the Sound Barrier... Vinyl heart throb of the week goes to: Dire Straits, 'Twisting By The Pool'...Back to Sparky'...A quick staff change here: Carter Alan is now doing 6-10PM, and Albert O. is now doing 2-6AM." WKDF, NASHVILLE, TN M.D.-DAVID HALL: "Kiss played to a packed house at Municipal Auditorium Sunday night. even though they had to compete with the Super Bowl. KDF's airplay of 'I Love It Loud' obviously had a lot to do with it, because I hear the concert isn't selling well in markets with no new airplay on Kiss. It worked well for all concerned here...The Bryan Adams album is loaded with killer cuts. Singling out one to play is impossible, so we went with two, and I'd like to play everything on Side One before the year is out. It's time this 'unknown' Canadian talent got the plantinum reception he deserves... The Journey album is strange. Why is Steve Perry's voice buried in the mix? I don't know if there's much life in this one past the single...Eric Clapton has more rock and roll in his heart than on his album, but there is some tasty stuff here reminiscent of '461 Ocean Blvd.'...And, finally, getting some good, early phones on the new Styx single." WAPI-FM, BIRMINGHAM, AL M.D.-JOANNE PETERSON: "Lots of good music for you this week, and lots of good adds...Eric Clapton's album is strong through and through. His best in a long time...Journey--another good one for Journey fans...Also added: Styx 12", Bryan Adams, Psychedelic Furs, and Re-adds on Glenn Frey and Don Henley.. .1 went to see The Members this week; lots of fun and great music. This band knows how to grab an audience. 'Working Girl' is going to be a smash...Top phones: MIchael Jackson, Frida, Journey, Duran Duran, Men At Work...Golden Earring continues to grow in both phones and sales... Men At Work returns to heavy this week with 'Be Good Johnny' and 'Underground' in Medium...Top sales: Hall & Oates, Michael Jackson, Men At Work, Bob Seger, Duran Duran, Stray Cats...Looking forward to seeing a lot of folks at the South-East Radio/Record Conference next weekend here in the 'Magic City'." KTXQ, DALLAS, TX M.D.-DRAKE HALL: "Jesus! It's good to be here in the 80's with you wonderful people. Since everyone is so modern rock crazy, we have joined the pack. We have a new wave recipe show every morning and the jocks on the show do a stream of consciousness rap over a drum machine--a la Laurie Anderson and Human League... In an effort to insure our hipness quotient with the rest of the country, we added Berlin's 'Sex'. This song still scares me, but 'I'm A Slut', 'I'm An Axe Murderer', etc., of course, will be a hit here...Also, for our 55+ listeners we rolled the Clapton.

MODERN DRUMMER VOL. 8, NO. 12 Cover Photo by Layne Murdock CONTENTS FEATURES TERRY BOZZIO Although his work with such artists as Frank Zappa, the Brecker Brothers, and UK established Terry Bozzio's reputation as a fine drummer, his work with Missing Persons has revealed that there is more to Bozzio than was demonstrated in those other situations. Here, he talks about the hard work that went into starting his own band, explains his feelings that drummers should be more visible, and details his self-designed electronic drumset. by Rick Mattingly 8 OMAR HAKIM The fact that Weather Report and David Bowie have been sharing the same drummer says a lot about Omar Hakim's versatility, especially when one considers the wide range of styles that each of those situations encompasses. But Hakim's background prepared him well for the many diverse musical settings he has encountered, and he recounts that background in this amiable discussion of his life and career. by Robin Tolleson 14 INSIDE CALATO by Rick Van Horn 18 IAN PAICE The drummer for Deep Purple reminisces about the group's formation, discusses the band's reunion after an eight-year breakup, and describes Deep Purple's effect on today's music. App. 1 (2001) The defendants in this case obtained a stolen Discover credit card and false Utah identification. They went to two JC Penny stores and purchased $3,000 in gift certificates. They then purchased cologne and a ring using the certificates. Later the same evening, they returned to exchange the ring for a cash refund. Security was called and the two were arrested. They were charged with uttering and publishing for their use of the gift certificates. “Although defendant presented ‘facially valid’ gift certificates, defendant’s fraudulent acts induced the creation of the gift certificates. Thus, the gift certificates purported to be legally valid instruments, the presentment of which would entitle defendant to valuable goods and services. However, defendant had no legal right to own, present, or convert the gift certificates into valuable goods and services. Nevertheless, defendant presented the gift certificates to the J.C. Penney store clerk, thus asserting their genuineness, knowing that the instruments were fraudulently acquired, and demanded goods to which he was not entitled and for which liability in someone other than defendant might have been created if defendant could have accomplished his illegal purpose. We hold that such conduct is proscribed by the uttering and publishing statute.” Add to page 5-18 Larceny by conversion & People v Mason, C/A No. 219630 (July 27, 2001) Defendant in this case operated a mobile home company.

Du Bois' theory of double consciousness, can be taken on by those who are White. I analyze songs both written and covered by Eric Clapton, to examine if elements of double consciousness are in his music. Furthermore, I analyze album covers that have Clapton's image on them, looking for characteristics of physical Blackness. My fmdings reveal that Eric Clapton does take on aspects of double consciousness, through his music, and facets of physical Blackness.

  • Rock Album Discography Last Up-Date: September 27Th, 2021
Rock Album Discography Last up-date: September 27th, 2021 Rock Album Discography “Music was my first love, and it will be my last” was the first line of the virteous song “Music” on the album “Rebel”, which was produced by Alan Parson, sung by John Miles, and released I n 1976. From my point of view, there is no other citation, which more properly expresses the emotional impact of music to human beings. People come and go, but music remains forever, since acoustic waves are not bound to matter like monuments, paintings, or sculptures. In contrast, music as sound in general is transmitted by matter vibrations and can be reproduced independent of space and time. In this way, music is able to connect humans from the earliest high cultures to people of our present societies all over the world. Music is indeed a universal language and likely not restricted to our planetary society. The importance of music to the human society is also underlined by the Voyager mission: Both Voyager spacecrafts, which were launched at August 20th and September 05th, 1977, are bound for the stars, now, after their visits to the outer planets of our solar system (mission status: https://voyager.jpl.nasa.gov/mission/status/). They carry a gold- plated copper phonograph record, which comprises 90 minutes of music selected from all cultures next to sounds, spoken messages, and images from our planet Earth. There is rather little hope that any extraterrestrial form of life will ever come along the Voyager spacecrafts. But if this is yet going to happen they are likely able to understand the sound of music from these records at least.
