Economist Rohini Pande, a Rak Hariri professor of International Political Economy, at Harvard University has won the 2018 Carolyn Shaw Bell Award

Economist Rohini Pande, a Rak Hariri professor of International Political Economy at the Harvard Kennedy School, Harvard University, has won the 2018 Carolyn Shaw Bell Award, said the the American Economics Association. The award was rst presented in 1998, and is named after Carolyn Bell Shaw, the Katharine Coman chair professor emerita of Wellesley College.

The Carolyn Shaw Bell Award (“Bell Award”) is given annually to an individual who has furthered the status of women in the economics profession, through example, achievements, increasing our understanding of how women can advance in the economics profession, or mentoring others.

Pande is an accomplished development scholar and gifted academic leader. She mentors all along the economics pipeline, from undergraduates to graduate students, postdocs to junior colleagues at her own and other universities, to support their future success. In scholarship, Professor Pande is one of the most inuential development economists of her generation, said a statement released by the association.

Pande earned her doctorate in economics from the London School of Economics in 1999. Earlier in her career, she served as an Assistant Professor of Economics at Columbia University and as an Assistant and Associate Professor of Economics at Yale University. She has also held visiting professor positions at Stanford, Pompeu Fabra, Berkeley, and MIT.

In addition, she mentors all along the economics pipeline, from undergraduates to graduate students, postdocs to junior colleagues at her own and other universities, to support their future success. She often co-authors papers with mentees and encourages undergraduate women to pursue economics as a career.

She also works with and advises junior faculty to support their scholarship and publications.
