Oct/Nov, 2013 A Reform Congregation Volume 9, Issue 2

FROM THE

An Orthodox rabbi by the name of Irving (Yitz) Greenberg tells a story about the End of Days. According to the story, when the Messiah arrives on earth at the End of Days, someone will ask him if this is the first time he has appeared on earth. The Messiah will just smile and walk away without answering the question. Orthodox believe the Messiah will come in the future at the End of Days. The Reform movement has replaced references to a personal Messiah in the traditional (prayer book) with a reference to a future, hoped-for Messianic Age. Christians believe that Jesus was the Messiah and will return again at the End of Days. This year's Adult Education class will be entitled The Messiah and the Jews. We will examine how the concept of the Messiah developed in the Bible, the genealogy of the Messiah, what the Messiah is supposed to achieve and why the Reform move- ment rejected the concept of a personal Messiah and replaced it with the concept of a Messianic Age. Christians believe that Jesus was the Messiah and there are missionaries, some of whom call themselves Messianics or Messianic Jews, who try to convince Jews to ac- cept Jesus as the Messiah. The tells us that "there is a place in the World-to- Come for the righteous of all nations," and it is incumbent upon each of us to respect the beliefs of other religions. However, the Adult Education class will provide you with numerous concrete reasons why rejects Jesus as the Messiah. If you complete the class, you will have a thorough knowledge of these reasons, which you can use if anyone ever tries to convince you to abandon long-held Jewish beliefs. The first Adult Education class will be held from 7:30 P.M. to 8:30 P.M. on Wednesday, October 30th, and thereafter on two Wednesday evenings each month. The dates of the two monthly sessions will be listed on the calendar in the temple's bulletin and you will also receive an email from me prior to each class. I hope you will attend these classes.

Thank you David for stepping up. A GOOD STORY NOT KNOWN BY MANY. The only four (4) airplanes Israel had when the war of independence began were smuggled from Czech Republic. They were German "Messerschmitt 109". They were assembled overnight in Tel Aviv and were never flight tested. This is a short video about their pilots. Watch it. You will not be disappointed. Watch this video : http://vimeo.com/54400569 (if clicking directly doesn’t load then cut and paste into address line) Thanks to Gabe for emailing this to me. For those of you who did not see this video it is worth a few minutes of your time

Once again we at Temple Shalom we had a wonderful break-fast. I would like to give a special Thank You to my co-workers: Irene Klein for shopping and setting everything up along with her helpers: Cookie, Lynn , Marlene, Ina, and Mary. Also, a thank you to Lily Ann for everything she did in getting the tables and chairs all in order. Thank you to each and everyone of you who brought all the great food that we had to eat. To those of you who couldn’t attend the break-fast, you were missed. Have a Healthy and Happy New Year everyone. Natalie Kramer

The commitment would be that profits be assigned to Brotherhood for use in Temple activities. October 25, 2013 If there is interest, an organizational meeting would be Sisterhood Shabbat planned for early November. 7:30 PM All Brotherhood activities depend on YOU to attend and par- ticipate.
