    AN ABSTRACT OF THE THESIS OF Michael D. Hylland for the degree of Master of Science in Geology presented on May 3. 1990 Title: Geology of the Southern Gandghar Range and Kherimar Hills. Northern Pakistan Abstract approved: RobeS. Yeats The Gandghar Range and Kherimar Hills, located in the Hill Ranges of northern Pakistan, contain rocks that are transitional between unmetarnorphosed foreland-basin strata to the south and high-grade metamorphic and plutonic rocks to the north. The southern Gandghar Range is composed of a succession of marine strata of probable Proterozoic age, consisting of a thick basal argillaceous sequence (Manki Formation) overlain by algal limestone and shale (Shahkot, Utch Khattak, and Shekhai formations). These strata are intruded by diabase dikes and sills that may correlate with the Panjal Volcanics. Southern Gandghar Range strata occur in two structural blocks juxtaposed along the Baghdarra fault. The hanging wall consists entirely of isoclinally-folded Manki Formation, whereas the footwall consists of the complete Manki-Shekhai succession which has been deformed into tight, northeast-plunging, generally southeast (foreland) verging disharmonic folds. Phyllite near the Baghdarra fault displays kink bands, a poorly-developed S-C fabric, and asymmetric deformation of foliation around garnet porphyroblasts. These features are consistent with conditions of dextral shear, indicating reverse-slip displacement along the fault. South of the Gandghar Range, the Panjal fault brings the Gandghar Range succession over the Kherimar Hills succession, which is composed of a basal Precambrian arenaceous sequence (Hazara Formation) unconformably overlain by Jurassic limestone (Samana Suk Formation) which in turn is unconformably overlain by Paleogene marine strata (Lockhart Limestone and Patala Formation).

(Adopted from UNEP) Rural Housing Project (World Bank -ERRA) Limited Environmental Assessment Report Environment Protection Cell of Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority EXECUTIVE SUMMARY The earthquake of October 8, 2005, left 73,000 dead and about as many injured while 2.8 million people were left shelterless. It brought a greater damage to whole infrastructure including roads, health facilities, different institutional facilities and above all the sever damages of about 600,000 houses including scattered waste rural and urban 2 houses in area of 30,000 Km expanding North East of Pakistan and State of Azad Jammun and Kashmir. To provide the shelter at transitional level and challenge of reconstruction of private houses was one of the first step that ERRA took on. Population in rural area was more vulnerable due to access to them for relief and rehabilitation.

By that time, ERRA had already gained momentum in the planning and strategy development and started devolving responsibilities with due focus on building capacity of its affiliates, SERRA/PERRA and DRUs. The enormity, complexity and diversity of reconstruction and rehabilitation programme afforded unparallel experiences that opened new avenues for learning to people within the organization, as well as to stakeholders, development practitioners, planners and managers, academic institutions and international community. One such avenue led to the development of District Profiles of the nine earthquake affected districts. The impediments faced in collecting accurate data for damage assessment of the earthquake and for planning reconstruction strategies was a sufficient indicator for ERRA to address the deficiency timely and pragmatically to ensure that such a situation would not be repeated in the future. Therefore, ERRA, together with its affiliates SERRA/PERRA and DRUs, initiated compilation of available district specific data/information on relevant socio-economic and physical indicators in the form of District Profile to serve as a baseline and a reference point for planning and monitoring progress of work.

    GALIYAT research project Potential Possibilities for Enterprise Creation Shawls / Clothing | Umbrella | Dry Fruits | Mechanic Changla Gali Bandar Point Ayubia Kuza Gali Diyaar Gali Nathia Gali Farooq - e - Azam Morti Kashmir Point Bagnotar Dunga Gali Harnoi Khera gali KPEmpowered (KPE) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Empowered (KPE) programme has been conceptualized by SEED, and has been formulated to serve the larger purpose of socio-economic development in KPK. The Galiyat pilot project is being launched under the KPE programme. This pilot project will be launched in Galiyat in collaboration with the Galiyat Development Authority (GDA), and will be executed with the support of Tech Valley Abbottabad. The focus of this pilot project is to develop an entrepreneurial ecosystem in Galiyat through; creation of sustainable livelihood opportunities for grass-root-entrepreneurs, and enhancing and augmenting tourism in the region. Galiyat Research and Mapping INTRODUCTION Development of the tourism industry in KPK is one of the key focus areas of Galiyat region’s provincial government. However, progress in this particular sector requires that an innovative approach is taken with respect to its development. Tourism cannot ourish in isolation. It is the by-product rather than the source of socio-economic progress in the region. Economic pros- perity stems from entrepreneurial and business activity in a particular region, and is scalable and sustainable when the cores of such activities are indigenous resources. The Galyat site visit was conducted, covering 13 locations, to map the micro-enterprise land- scape and to assess the needs of their grass-root entrepreneurs. This survey helped ascertain their requirements which could be used to develop and customise products that could relevantly addresses their business and operational needs.
