The Chagigah (13b) says in the name of Rebbe Abuhu Carol Weissmann regarding keruvim - like the face of a young child, as in Bavel a young child was called rubya; so too does Rashi interpret the word here. The Baal Haturim adds in his explanation the verse from Hoshea (11:1), where Hashem says, "For Israel is a Re/Max Properties Select. young lad and I love him." Thus the two keruvim represent the praise of the Jewish people and the secret of why Hashem loves them. The Saba of Kelm said in the name of Rav Yisrael Salanter, that a young child is always eager to learn. The Direct phone 201-390-6600 Shechina, Hashem’s presence, dwelled atop the keruvim and the Torah is teaching us that our being childlike, always ques- tioning, is what finds favor in Hashem's eyes. This is why our scholars and Rabbis are called a talmidei chachamim, demon- [email protected] strating that they are always learning more. Interestingly, the Torah Shemos (33:11) refers to Yehoshua the disciple/attendant of Moshe, as a na’ar – a young lad, and according to our Rabbis, he was 56 years old. The Ibn Ezra explains this is because he acted towards Moshe as a na’ar, ever learning and always soaking up Moshe's values and characteristics.
