Alan Griffiths, at page 103, states "the incidence of genuinely used examples is very limited". 541 PS A- 1897 Four Figures 2d blue HG KB5 with Mount Morgan Gold Mining Co embossing on the flap, used Rockhampton to Toowoomba (b/s). 100T QUEENSLAND - Postal Stationery - Postal Cards Lot 565 565 PS B 1891 Bradbury Wilkinson Head 2d blue 'VIA DIRECT ROUTE' HG 5 to "Trinity College/Oxford" with BN '114' & 'NORMANTON' cds of JA8/89, 'THURSDAY ISLAND' transit b/s, minor blemishes. [Social message to the writer's uncle: "...I believe you have a river in or near the town of Oxford. Are there any alligators in it? We have plenty here..." Of course, the writer was referring to crocodiles in Australia] 250T QUEENSLAND - Postal Stationery - Wrappers Lot 622 622 D A- 1891 Lined Background ½d green as HG E1 but with the Stamp Impression below & Aligned with the Right-Hand Side of the Text piece (125x67mm) with 'The NORTH QUEENSLAND/MINING ANNUAL' Overprint in Red, to "Hon Baden Powell/House of Commons/London" with worn strike of GB '[crown]/R' postal inspector's h/s. [The first issue was available from 25.11.1891 but was authorised only from 1.1.1892, when the ½d Newspaper Rate was introduced] The stock is most unusual, being of superior quality and highly surfaced on the face, unlike any other Queensland wrapper we have encountered. This raises the possibility that this is a previously unrecognised Stamped-to-Order issue and not just an overprint on a Post Office-issue wrapper. 100T SOUTH AUSTRALIA - Travelling Post Offices From the extensive collections formed by John Booker in England; see also separate sections under the other Colonies/States (except WA, which was offered in our previous auction held on 1.12.2019) and check the Cross Reference on pages 177-179 for those lotted elsewhere. It consists of two sections: Volume 1 – Introduction & Recommendations. This volume outlines the process by which the thematic history was prepared as well as recommending some areas for further investigation and places of potential significance. Volume 2 – A Thematic History of the Shire according to nine themes and concluding with a Statement of Significance. The need for the preparation of an all-encompassing, Shire-wide thematic history had been identified as a key priority in the local Heritage Strategy 2012-2016.1 A thematic history has previously been prepared for sections of Mount Alexander Shire, within the heritage studies of the former shires of Metcalfe and Newstead. In addition, although many places are protected by heritage overlays further assessment was needed according to the Heritage Strategy as follows: Protecting & Managing There are over 1000 places in the Schedule to the Heritage Overlay however these are unevenly spread across the Shire.

  • Innumerable People Have Asked Me How I Got My First Name
THE JOURNO FROM THE BUSH D Tasman Pellas 1 Acknowledgements My brother Ivan was the instigator of these memoirs. After I suffered my stroke the day following my 80th birthday party, I thought aloud “What am I going to do with my life?” Ivan, who had come up to Sydney from Bendigo for the party, replied “Why not write about your life up to this point?” Or words to that effect, hence these memoirs. To provide a family background of just how I came to arrive on Planet Earth, and of continuing family relationships, I needed many reference points. Frank Pellas (Ivan’s son) solved to problem with his two centimetre thick family tree dating back to my great grandfather. Published in 1996, this valuable history covers six generations with 604 individual descendants scattered worldwide, including Finland, Sweden, Australia and USA. Worthy contributions have been made by my sister Betty (Elizabeth Joy Vanstan) and my sister in law Ethel (nee Quick). The whole family of my daughter Wendy and her husband Mike Allan have been involved in a myriad of ways, with special mention of my grand- daughter Bec who I regard and refer to as my “publisher” – a skilful master at that craft. Finally no memoirs of mine would be complete without the acknowledgement of my late wife Betty, without whom my life would have been forever incomplete. 2 The beginning……………………………………………………………………………………..
